Why are you calling him selfish? When you book a trip to everest you stay there for 2 months during the season you climb, not to mention he probably paid for the trip which i think is around 20 grand possibly before his child was conceived. Everest takes a huge commitment, and it’s not like he knew the exact hour or day his daughter would be born. Also if he did pay for the trip he might not have been able to get a refund, or he could have been there for longer than he thought due to weather or some other circumstance. Seems prudent to judge someone when you don’t know all the details.

$20K was a drop in the bucket for him. He left a wife who was probably about 7 months pregnant to go camp for two months and then risk his life.

So he would have lost anywhere from $20K to $100K, a drop in the bucket to him.

How does that compare to a child that will grow up never knowing their father? Maybe she is better off not knowing him.
