And yet George Washington set the precedent for holding the office above the person. He was offered the title in perpetuity, and probably could have become a King if he had so desired. Palin didn’t quit, and when she accepts the Republican nomination her first words should be: “Still think I’m a quitter?”
Alaska is fine flower.
Washington completed the term, after taking the oath.
Obama was a Senator for a few months before he basically abandoned his post and began running for President full time. He gets no grief for that, but you heap a helping of harsh on Palin for doing what she HAD to do in order of Alaska to operate from the top down. Any politician who runs for President while simultaneously remaining Governor, or Senator, or Rep., should step down and allow someone else to serve. Just commonsense, too bad that it’s not common practice.
So you’re claiming that a small-town Republican politician did the right thing and isn’t getting the appropriate credit? Think there mighta been any other way for The Sarah to handle the situation? Abrupt, public resignation, the only way? How’d Churchill put it?
No one gives up power. . . Do you get it? It simply isn’t done. NO ONE gives up power. They hang on to it with a death grip. Look at the pols in Washington who have been reelected over and over again. Look at my idiot Sen. Lugar (RINO) who is pushing 80, knowing no one wants him anymore, and yet... He will fight to keep the power. You simply do not understand the problem. We are a nation run by statists and career pols who will never give up their power. It must be taken harshly, by election hopefully, but if the system is not deconstructed soon, we are doomed. Get it? And you worry about... what exactly?
People, Palins, give up power when it ain’t much to begin with, and is expensive to maintain:
“The ethics law I championed became their weapon of choice. Over the past nine months I’ve been accused of all sorts of frivolous ethics violations - such as holding a fish in a photograph, wearing a jacket with a logo on it, and answering reporters’ questions.
Every one - all 15 of the ethics complaints have been dismissed. We’ve won! But it hasn’t been cheap - the State has wasted THOUSANDS of hours of YOUR time and shelled out some two million of YOUR dollars to respond to “opposition research” - that’s money NOT going to fund teachers or troopers - or safer roads. And this political absurdity, the “politics of personal destruction” ... Todd and I are looking at more than half a million dollars in legal bills in order to set the record straight. “http://tpmlivewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/07/full-text-of-palins-resignation-speech.php
Two million state dollars and half a million of her own, in part because of abusable loopholes in an ethics law she “championed”. Give up, HMS. Sarah wins the argument against her resignation for me.
I am, and it was...want to compare notes?

I guess you would be the one who could have predicted the loony tunes coming out of the woodwork to harass and confound her? Give up flower, you have PDS.
It’s all so simple. If Palin resigning as governor bothers you so much, support and vote for someone else.
Palin is not a bad woman, not blind, imperiously vain, repressive and condescending, like Pelosi or Hillary, but she ain’t Jesus-ette, either. I see her related to Maria from “The Sound of Music”, a flibbertijibbet will-o’-thep-wisp.
If she runs for 2012 president, I expect her to end up like Perot, popular but not able to commit and unable to put her family thru such a wringer. Remember Fred Thompson’s ‘08 run? Personally sacrificing her career to make life better for her state and for her family is the route she chose once before; and I suppose quitting for family and country is, like divorce, easier the second or third time around. It’s not that I will refuse to vote for her, ups, but that our state’s primary is late enough that I don’t expect to be able to vote for her. Time will tell. She may surprise me. She sure surprised me by letting the media be the first to tell me about her little pregnant girl...
There’s PDS out there; one of my coworkers just hate-hates Sarah Palin, sees her as ignorant, underqualified, and smug, like a televangeilst (or a community organizer). I’m not similarly deranged, but I ain’t deluded, either. I don’t hate the Sarah, but I don’t worship her. I don’t love her more than she could ever love me, and I don’t feel much of any need to jump to her defense at every doubters’ whine. I respect her enough to let her fight her own battles.
“She sure surprised me by letting the media be the first to tell me about her little pregnant girl...”
Are you kiddin’? What a snide comment. Exactly why should she rush to a camera to proclaim any such fact? OK, you only have a MILD case of PDS.
You are ‘hearing’ the Romney campaign strategy ... trash Sarah in oblique fashion, then stand up the empty suit liar all shined up to run the distance, lying his way to the nomination, hiding his duplicitous dead-soul until he is exposed by the DNC propaganda arm euphemistically called the mainstream media.
Exactly why should she rush to a camera to proclaim any such fact?
Because she was running for the second-highest office in the land? And she wanted to present her daughter’s pregnancy in above-board, honest, face-the-facts fashion?
No offense.. Well, anything I would say at this point would be an offense. So, nevermind.
