"It is hard for me to evaluate the real political underlying reasons and I do not even want to get into that subject, but I cannot believe that everything is as it seems and how it was initially presented," he said. "It does not sit right in my head."

Mr Strauss-Kahn was arrested at JFK airport in New York on May 14 for allegedly sexually assaulting a hotel chambermaid.

Mr Putin's public support for Mr Strauss-Kahn comes days after a French politician alleged that the former IMF chief had said before his arrest that he thought Mr Putin was actively plotting his downfall.

The politician, Claude Bartolone, said: "He said the Russians and notably Putin had allied themselves with France to try to have him fired from the IMF to stop him running for (French) president."

The KGB goon might know a thing or two about this.

IMO, the fact that DSK is a pig might have made this even easier. When you have hundreds of billions and possibly the future of EU in your hands you better watch out.

Hard to picture an IMF head being stupid enough to just rape some hotel maid and there be no more to the story than that...

I guess its hard to picture if you have gone your entire life and never once in all that time read any biographies about the people in power in Europe, whether it was in the time of the Borgia popes up to the present day.

If you have even a peripheral awareness, then it seems inevitable that a number of them will get an awakening when outside of their no-penalty zone.
If they go to the Americas or Asia some of them are going to get caught like this.

So whether Strauss-Kahn was guilty this time or not, his position among the people Europe puts in charge is not something that points in any way, shape, or form to innocence.

I think he was capable of the assault. If he did it or not I don’t know.

Why not? People have done very stupid things for lust or other passions. Ask King Edward VIII.

Might have been, but I am not 100% sure he could hold her against her will but anyway, I wasn’t there.

Part of any intelligence agency’s job would be to find out each target’s weak point. Then set that person up so it’s credible. Just too much money and power involved here.

Putin does not like the case as it is shaping up. It reminds him of what routinely has gone on in his own world.
I am sure that he thinks that he could create a better story line himself, and enforce it more neatly.

My wife’s family in Germany believes to a person that this was a political hit job carried out on behalf of the current party in power in France. Apparently, few in Europe believe that the assault was real.
