No Tittle, No Title
What a great last surname!
Oops
.... What a great surname!
What a defensive line!!!
Andy Robustelli, Rosey Grier, Dick Modelewski and Jim Katcavage.
And Sam Huff as Middle Linebacker.
Go Giants!!!
The NFL was like an eight-team league back then so even a 19th-round pick probably wasn’t that bad a football player.
He was probably no larger than your typical NFL tight end of today.
I was there! Giants 47 - Bears 7. Wow, it was cold. I had my first cup of coffee that day.
R.I.P. #81.

That was a saying among fans half a century ago- I didn`t make it up. I was there and heard it.
Actually, the NFL was not similar to an eight-team league in any way, shape, or form back in the 1950's.
Now, that I’ve looked it up, you’re correct that there were 12 teams in 1951 (still, much fewer than the 32 of today) and one was the New York Yanks (nee Bulldogs) who disbanded a year later and the first Dallas Texans were created to replace them. They later moved to Baltimore and became the Colts.
Cleveland, Los Angeles and San Francisco had just been added from the disbanded All-American Football Conference (AAFC) so it was an eight or nine-team league in the late 1940s.
A defense so good, they didn’t need a stinking nickname, they were just “The New York Giants Defense.”
Heck, today there are kickers that are bigger than the linebackers back then.
RIP.
