I believe also that their children are entitled to automatically be recommended to attend any of the military academies provided they meet the academic criteria.
In regards to saluting, Audie Murphy had an interesting story in his biography. (To Hell and Back) He had some General (perhaps Mark Clark???) come visit him on the set one time. Murphy hated him for Anzio so when the General saluted him in deference to his Medal of Honor, Murphy did not return the salute and embarrassed him in front of all who were there.
The point is rather moot since in a few weeks everyone from private to 5 star general will salute him first.
A few points on that: Enlisted {E-1 - E-9} do not salute other enlisted and there are no more living 5 Star Generals or Admirals.
Your point is well taken-he deserves all the respect he is bound to receive from all he meets.
In addiction , if you recognize him in civilian clothing or he is wearing the miniature medal and you are in uniform you salute.
BUMP!
Thanks for the ping.
Have not seen this anywhere but was told that when checking in to a new command a MOH recipient is entitled to be met at the gate by the commanding officer and the base band if any, with full military honors.
It still pisses me off they took away the black berets.
Now everyone gets one- like everyone gets a trophy for trying hard in school.
And for the most part, the rest of the Army that was forced to wear berets hate them.
I take it that the rest of the military is to salute but does the Commander in Chief salute a MoH recipient? If so, can Sgt Petry please be made a White House reporter for Army Times and given a front row seat in the briefing room? I’d love to see the President show respect to this man every day.
Yes, I’ve read Schwartzkopf’s book and I’ve also read Fred Franks’ book as well. In his account (”Into the Storm”), General Franks refutes the criticism leveled at him for the alleged “slow” pace of executing the left hook.
Comrades? WTF????

It AP/MSNBC. Sometimes when posting an article you have to choose the article with the most information in it regardless of source. There were only a few other articles about this last night and they were only one or two paragraphs long, making for extremely short excerpts. I picked an article that I could pull his story out of for the excerpt.
Nothing untoward about it. It's a common word in US military circles, and one that SFC Petry is no doubt familiar with. It appears twice in the Ranger Creed.
Id love to see the President show respect to this man every day.
Same here. But I don’t think Sgt. Petry could stand seeing the punk every day.
Thanks for the info.
Well...OK...but I don’t remember using it when I was in. As a matter of fact we only used it when we were making fun of dirty hippies or Ivan.
