Chasing Sarah: The Boys Behind the Bus
The National Review ^ | June 1, 2011 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 06/01/2011 2:42:15 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Palin is rubbing the media mob’s sense of entitlement right back in its face.

In the 1970s, The Boys on the Bus exposed how a clubby pack of male political reporters ruled the road to the White House and shaped the news. Four decades later, an outsider gal from Alaska has commandeered the 2012 media bus — and left Beltway journalism insiders eating her dust. We’ve come a long way, baby.

Amid frenzied speculation over her potential presidential-campaign plans, former GOP Alaska governor Sarah Palin launched an all-American road trip with her family this Memorial Day weekend. Establishment media types didn’t get reserved seats or advance notice of her itinerary. Palin rubbed the Washington media mob’s institutional sense of entitlement right back in its face. “I don’t think I owe anything to the mainstream media. I want them to have to do a little bit of work on a tour like this,” she jabbed.

[snip -- good stuff]

The Atlantic’s Garance Franke-Ruta griped that “reality TV star Palin” was “treating pol reporters like paparazzi — needing and hating, inviting and making chase.” Perhaps Franke-Ruta needs a reminder of what a truly parasitic press-pol relationship looks like. I have stacks of Obama 2008 profiles exulting over his glistening pecs and soaring oratorical skills, followed by countless spurned-lover laments from reporters disappointed about the control freaks who stage-manage his every press appearance.

What makes Sarah stand out in the national GOP field is that she is beholden to no one and controls her own destiny. She doesn’t need media kingmakers to make her. They need her. She doesn’t need newspaper or TV producers to drive her story. She drives them. Crazy.

The unhinged reaction of the Palin-hating convoy reveals what its attendants fear most: a politician who doesn’t fear them.

Sarah Palin plays the media like a violin: Her turn now [excerpt] Sarah Palin, with her counterintuitive secret publicity bus tour, is demonstrating one of the most important rules of American politics:

There is nothing that the U.S. media wants more than something it thinks it can't have. Hence the power of news leaks that manipulate the thrust of their initial presentation. Hard-to-get is a rigid rule of human behavior. Ask any teenage boy or girl. [end excerpt]

The Atlantic’s Garance Franke-Ruta griped that “reality TV star Palin” was “treating pol reporters like paparazzi — needing and hating, inviting and making chase.”

When Princess Diana was killed after being chased by "paparazzi" (which is a fancy Europeanized way of saying locust media), there was initial horror in the press. Then, to their "relief", Diana's driver had been drinking. They immediately absolved themselves of all blame, primary and tertiary.

Witnesses: Diana's car may have 'bumped' another before crash

BS. Those "paparazzi" chased her like a hunted animal, and were directly responsible for her death. Then, to add insult to injury, they covered her funeral like the parasites they were. On top of that, they hounded Prince Harry and Prince William after her mother was in the grave.

The grace those two men have shown in recent months (including both of them serving in their nation's military, getting promoted, and both earning their helicopter wings) speaks volumes of their character over the low life's in the media.

"One miffed CBS News producer, Ryan Corsaro, pouted: “I just hope to God that one of these young producers with a camera whose bosses are making them follow Sarah Palin as a potential Republican candidate don’t get in a car crash, because this is dangerous,”

"I..hope that ...one don't...get in a crash"??? I could have a lot more respect for these "jorurnalists" if they could learn middle school english.

And I wish all the FOX news reporters would KNOCK IT OFF with all the cutesy attempts to get her to reveal she is running.

No mater how many times she makes it obvious she is not going to answer they press her over and over and over about “How are you leaning?” “Does it look positive so far”

OK WE GET IT. You are hoping to scoop the rest of the planet and get her to “announce” on your show.

WELL KNOCK IT OFF- IT IS VERY ANNOYING.

She’s RUNNING, OK?

Don’t these people KNOW that as soon as she becomes an ‘official’ candidate she has to abide by all kinds of legalities?

I dont care if she ever “announces”. I am voting for her and vice-president Bachman.

The lamestream media following Palin.

[excerpt]...By the time Palin's big bus pulled into Philadelphia around noon for a tour of Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, a mob of reporters was waiting for her.

"Watch the children! Don't step on the children," a man yelled as the scrum jostled a group of schoolchildren on a field trip. She was ushered into both buildings, and the crowd was left behind in the wilting heat.

Her bus left a short time later and was believed to be heading to New York.

The day started in typical fashion for this unconventional road trip. No schedule, no announcements, just a bunch of journalists trying to read tea leaves by watching where the bus goes. But the former Alaska governor had slipped out of her Gettysburg hotel early, in a sedan, for a quiet tour of the Civil War battlefield.

Later, as the bus headed to Philadelphia, it stopped in the town of Dillsburg, and Palin's entourage stepped out for some coffee. Palin joined a trio of customers at their table and chatted about economic policy and job creation. One of the men phoned his wife and put her on with Palin, who promised to stay at Coffee Express until the wife arrived, which she did about five minutes later.

In the last two days, as she moved from Washington to Maryland to Pennsylvania, Palin has delighted in showing her knowledge of and interest in American history and has seemed comfortable answering policy questions..... LA Times

Her oldest daughter and grandson are settled into a home in AZ, so they will be close to where Sarah and Todd Palin will be staying in Scottsdale.

Their oldest was just married (more formal wedding to follow).

The bus with it's One Nation logo is on the road.

The lame stream media is following in Sarah's dust, left to watch her connect with the American people w/o liberal bashing.

Yeah. I'd say she plans to run. Run right over them.
