Why was North Avenue Beach really closed? [Gang violence/Flash Mobs in Chicago]
WLS Radio ^ | 5/31/2011 | Monica DeSantis

Posted on 06/01/2011 3:43:24 AM PDT by 1010RD

Was it a flash mob that forced the closure of North Avenue beach on Memorial Day?

Chicago Police News Affairs released a statement saying they had to close the beach for safety reasons, as people were suffering heat exhaustion and emergency vehicles couldn't get through to help. But, WLS listeners say there was what they called a "large gangbanger element" at the Oak Street and North Avenue beaches.

READ: Emanuel: Police made right call in closing beach

Listeners report being at the beach, and seeing dozens of gang bangers pushing people off their bikes. Another listener says those causing havoc were not dressed for the beach and looked like "bad elements."

Webster's dictionary defines a flash mob as a group of people summoned (as by e-mail or text message) to a designated location at a specified time to perform an indicated action before dispersing. Flash mobs also can be organized via social media sites. But recently in Chicago, flash mobs have gathered along Michigan Avenue to do anything but entertain.

In January, groups of teens assembled along Michigan Avenue and shoplifted at three separate stores. Eleven teens ranging in age from 14 to 17 were arrested.

Chicago Police are denying that a flash mob intent on causing havoc forced the closure of the North Avenue beach on Memorial Day Monday.

Chicago desperately needs concealed carry. This type of flash mob behavior is going on across the City. Aggressive gangs of youth are gathering and terrorizing citizens.

This happened so badly at Water Tower Place that extra patrols were placed on foot on the ground to control the crowd. At last years Taste of Chicago a gang fight erupted that lasted over a half dozen blocks and which police couldn't stop or control. It was a real taste of Chicago.

It's only going to get worse as summer progresses. These crimes and deaths sit squarely on the heads of our local liberals and gun nuts*, but I repeat myself.

*person who blames guns for all crimes instead of the criminals who commit them and seeks to disarm the honest and lawful to the benefit of the criminal element.

A man who was killed trying to protect his girlfriend and a 16-year-old girl were among six people killed and at least 21 others wounded in separate shootings over the Memorial Day holiday and into the night, officials said.

Two of the non-fatal shootings took place at a South Side beach.

We closely associate poverty with the urban environment. While cities do concentrate poverty that heretofore has been invisible in the Styx, the truth is that urban policies promulgated by liberal Utopians not only concentrate poverty, but exacerbate it.

The level of lawlessness in Chicago is incredible. Utterly unbelievable and our cops are scared, really scared.

Earlier this year I directly witnessed a car turn the wrong way onto a one way street in front of a squad car. The officer waved, but that didn’t stop the driver. The officer honked, but that didn’t stop the driver. The officer turned on the lights and siren and that didn’t stop the driver who simply waived and went on.

You mean how they made draconian gun control laws possible disarming several generations of the law-abiding?

Another solution that punishes the good and rewards the evil. Can you imagine urban areas in flames while Obama calls for martial law, temporarily of course?

Because kicking the good people off the beach so the bad ones can have it is not protecting people. Summon the SWAT teams and let them kill some criminals for a change.

Like Europe, we will see the expansion of "no go" zones where the law is the local Imam or gang, not the police.

As of June 1, this morning, on WLS-AM Don and Roma, it's now more than clear that the problem at the Chicago beaches were gangs. There were thousands of these kids out there, knocking people off their bikes and high-fiving. There were robberies, etc., etc., etc..

After the beach was shut down, they went on to Navy Pier, Millennium Park, and Michigan Avenue.

I guess that Rahm is going to have to bite the bullet and make belonging to a gang so painful and so horrific that not getting involved in one will seem even to the most "dull" to be a good and obvious choice.

Saw it, thanks. I’ve been living it and watching it worsen over the last 3 years.

We’ve got a large Echo generation of fatherless children who hate/resent women and the society that ‘made’ them poor and black.

It’s a lie, but they believe it and they’ve been trained by race pimps to want to take it back by force.

I do not agree that poverty has anything to do with what we now witness. Though young and unemployed, the perpetrators enjoy a high standard of living. None have ever experienced the scourge of hunger, disease, or homelessness. All own cell phones, wear expensive sports attire, live in abodes with microwave ovens, HD TV, and Internet access. Food is in plentiful, greasy supply. What we are witnessing is the failed concept of the single "parent" whose child is "reared" by institution, in the absence of religious teaching, within a culture of moral relativism, glorifying violence, and obsessed with drugs. The outcome was predictable. Got ammo?

Remember, they will not be called “flash mobs” by the media - they will be called “white racists”. I am so tired of the Lame Stream, State Run media calling mobs of black racists everything but. Terms like “drive by shootings”, “wilding”,
“angry groups of youths”, etc. are simply cover so as to allow the media to avoid describing what they really are - groups of blacks and/or Hispanics who perpetrate acts of violence - often on whitey.

Given that the police cannot handle it you would appear to be correct, but given that the law-abiding gun owner risks decades of incarceration for defending the good and honest makes me think this won’t happen until we get concealed carry.

BTW we’re not getting concealed carry in Illinois this session. It’s going to be another deadly summer.

Yes, being allowed to protect yourself with a firearm would help, but there is something else going on here that is very troubling. There appears to be a growing lack of a moral code, lack of respect for others, lack of respect for the law and for those who have been authorized to uphold it, and a general lack of respect for life. We have big problems.

IIRC statistics place 80% of poverty in homes run by single-moms without HS degrees, pregnant in their teens. The breakdown of the black family at the hands of The Great Society is the institution of a modern, more vicious slavery than you can understand.

It has left a generation at the mercy of race-baiting poverty pimps who agitate for just this kind of justice. It’s revenge promulgated upon young, angry youths looking for an excuse to act.

Obama’s pastor, the shepherd of his mind, isn’t unique to Chicago. Reverend Wright is the epitome of elite black thinking in Chicago.

You’re right, though, these young people don’t lack for material goods once reserved for the wealthy. They lack for the spiritual goods available to all through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that and a loving human father to shepherd them right.

Obama’s dreams of his father, absent, distant and radical, are coming true for millions of black youth.

Heard and read reports of violence in many locations this Memorial Day weekend. Chicago, Boston, Myrtle Beach, Atlanta, Charlotte, and this may be a partial list, of those locations where violence took place. There is conversation of this (violence and gang activity) may have been a coordinated effort setup via twitter or perhaps another media function to organize the gang violence activity. Thirty years of having removed God from the schools is sending the chickens home to roost ... imho

Not first hand, Uncle had me somewhere else during that time. My take on the news reports we got, was that what the Commies couldn't win on the battle field, they accomplished on the streets back home.

I'm talking about the race riots of the mid 60s, not the hippies and the anti-war protests. Watts 1965, Harlem 1964, Newark and Detroit 1967, etc.

With LBJ in office, the rioters thought (correctly, as it turned out) that the mobs could smash, burn and loot without much consequence.

There is a similar thought process at work now. The mobs think they can do as they please with no consequence.

Nixon capitalized on this and made "law and order" a major campaign theme. Note how after he took office, the urban violence tapered off. That's because the rioters know their asses would be shot.

We have big problems. They were created intentionally.

History books belittle McCarthy, but Verona et al prove that the Soviets targeted American liberty post war. Their goal was to destroy what makes us Americans - individual liberty and love of God, the Christian God.

Look around you and it is patently obvious that through 'civil rights', government schooling, and big government 'solutions' the Soviet plan largely succeeded.

They lost their geographic empire, but gained an empire of the mind. That socialism is still taken seriously shows you how demented the education of our children truly is.

I knew it was only a matter of time where we move from having innocent public dancing or singing sessions from a flash mob to criminal activity.

It won’t be long before we see coordinated armed assaults in areas, a gang or terrorist group could take over an area before the police mount a response.

Rahm won’t do a thing. He’s part of the political class and he knew that the real problem was gangs. Instead of acting boldly, he crimped and blamed the weather.

The problem is that liberals are beholden to a whole set of ideas that are perpendicular to reality. Our job is to make sure conservatives don’t do that and then capture the hearts and minds of the mushy middle.

There are plenty of conservatives in Chicago. Why doesn’t one of them run for Mayor? The City gets what it deserves.

I once dictated an arrest report and the typed version came back with a mis-spelling.

I'll never forget the inflection in the typist's voice [she was canadian by birth, and had just a bit of british colombian accent]

"Oh that's not Elroy, that Leroy", raising the note of the first syllable of the second name.[Maybe I just need to cut an mp3 and post it.]

You know, after awhile, all the elroys and leroys start to run together anyway.

I don’t know that your analogy is apt for today. Look at what happens when anarchist riot so they can have more government and less free market.

The police move gently and grudgingly against them.

Do you think Mayor Rham will ever issue a “shoot to kill arsonists” and “shoot to maim looters” like Old Man Daley did?

If a half dozen anarchist were shot dead by owners or police you’d end their rioting forever. They’re mostly cowards and college brats.

These blacks are very, very angry young men. Prone to incredible violence as a way of life. They no longer respect authority or the police. It’s bad and could still turn worse. I’m not convinced the CPD can handle it.

Don’t kid yourself. Even if the politician can’t think like us, he has people who can. They know what they want to do and their experts tell them how to spin it so that 51% of the voters think its a good idea. It doesn’t always work, but they do a pretty good job a wrapping up a giant steaming pile in pretty paper and a big bow and telling us it’s Christmas.

This was just a case of letting the criminals win because they outnumbered the cops. Civilization gives up ground and the barbarians take it. Spinning it as “too many cases of heat exhaustion” is so laughable that even a democrat teacher wouldn’t fall for it. This is one of those Baghdad Bob moments.

When is the annual Virginia Beach riot.

I was present for what I believe to have been the last "Annual Virginia Beach Riot".

In 1989.

After that, VB made it clear that the urban black "fraternities" from NY, NJ, Philadelphia were NOT WELCOME ... and the organized events catering to them were canceled.

I have since moved away, but I believe they no longer have riots.
