San Diego mayor says July 4 fireworks, even birthday parties, are in doubt after court ruling
By Associated Press
Updated: Wednesday, June 1, 3:26 AM

SAN DIEGO — The city’s Fourth of July fireworks displays aren’t the only celebrations in doubt after a judge ordered rigorous environmental reviews of large events, Mayor Jerry Sanders says. Birthday parties may be at risk if more than 75 people are invited.

Sanders says Friday’s ruling by Superior Court Judge Linda Quinn in a lawsuit over a La Jolla Cove fireworks show applies to the roughly 20,000 park permits that the city issues each year. That includes city fireworks shows and other large events that include a Mardi Gras party in the city’s Gaslamp Quarter and a Cinco de Mayo festival.

Thousands of events that require a park permit, including small private parties, would be subject to an expensive, time-consuming review under the California Environmental Quality Act, Sanders told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

“It’s ludicrous,” he said. “It takes forever, it costs a lot of money, and nobody would do it.”

If upheld, the ruling may also affect other cities, Sanders said.

Time for the mayor to say “Freep you!” and make the judge enforce the ruling herself, one birthday party at a time. Show up at a Chicano family’s Quinceanera bash and tell them they can’t party until the Environment approves it, sweetie. That’ll work.

“It’s ludicrous,” he said. “It takes forever, it costs a lot of money, and nobody would do it.”

Back in 1970 I heard an environmental activist say (on the first Earth Day) that Environmentalism/Ecology was the perfect "cause" because it could justify regulatory (government) control and coordination of EVERYTHING.

And people were cheering this. But I was thinking (dimly) "Wha....?"

Over the years... step by step ... boiling the frogs....

Why not? They've done it to firearms owners, smokers, hunters....

I do not mean to offend but I will be happy when california collapses and fails... it represents everything wrong in America today. I know there are good people living in that once great state... but not enough of them to change anything.

What is the environmental impact of the judge holding court? and impact of the court building? And impact of the offices of all those lawyers?

We could go back 7 degrees of separation on this.

Bottom line, what is the environmental impact of civilization?

The court’s ruling outlaws PEOPLE!!!!!

The Judge doesn’t like the impact PEOPLE have on the planet!

The PEOPLE “gathering”, is the supposed distinguishing “violation”.

What exactly is the environmental difference between the people collectively vs. individually?

As you probably know, the Left is hoping for a society with a very small population (20 million?) that lives in caves and eats berries and dies at about age 35. The elitists, of course, will live up on the hill, in nice houses, eating good food, watching over the peasants in caves, making sure we don't get out of line.

This arrangement is what is best for the planet.

That’s the Ira Einhorn that killed his girlfriend and cut her body into pieces and stuffed them in an old trunk. Then, Arlen Specter got him released on bail and he fled the country.

Typical liberals.

Back when the feds raised the tax on loose tobacco by 2300% I read a story out of the Ann Arbor news. In the story a smoker was quoted as saying “I don’t like it but its probably for my own good”.

I don’t even smoke and I wanted to beat the guy with a baseball bat while telling him, “You won’t like this but its probably for your own good”.
