Romney cranks 2012 campaign machine into high gear

(Reuters) - Mitt Romney, the multi-millionaire former governor of Massachusetts, kicks off his second bid for the White House on Thursday as the front-runner of a wide-open Republican field.

Romney will start his campaign in New Hampshire, the early-voting state where a win in the February primary election would boost his chance of taking the nomination and facing President Barack Obama in the November 2012 general election.

Romney has a powerful fund-raising apparatus in place. He raised an astounding $10.25 million in an eight-hour phone-a-thon in Las Vegas last month. Contacts from Romney's days running the venture capital firm Bain Capital are another rich source of campaign donations.

Thanks for saving the Winter Olympics in Utah, Mitt. Now, go save your state (Mass) from it's healthcare fiasco. (if raising money is your forte, this ought not be a problem, eh?)

Personally, I don't want anyone from Massachusetes (phonetically) anywhere near the White House- or from the eastern seaboard, for that matter. Color me cynical.

OK, let me make it clear.

If Romney gets the nod, we are screwed.

If he cares about the USA at all, he will pull out before he does permanent damage.

If he doesn’t exit then we will know he doesn’t care.

Romney = guaranteed 2012 GOP loss, McCain redux. It’s that simple.

Thats a one trick pony that they keep acting like he can do every day. Vegas is basically a Mormon ATM.

Howard Dead was good at raising money too. That doesn’t mean I wanted him for my president.

Romney = guaranteed 2012 GOP loss, McCain redux. It’s that simple.

What if he didn't lose? And remember, Obama ain't exactly Johnny Popular in America. There's a pretty decent chance Obama won't be the GOP's opponent and it will be someone else. Maybe Hillary, or maybe who knows who?

Say the GOP as represented by Romney won, God forbid. Americans who vote would become more cynical and apathetic, and Romney would grow government, tweak government, "manage" government, seek solutions through -- you guessed it -- government. It's the only thing he knows.

Congress would go way left in the mid-terms. And then, whether Romney was in for four or eight years, the next Democrat would make Obama look like a piker. Remember when Clinton or -- *gasp* -- Hillary was the ultimate liberal nightmare? The "anybody but" liberal nightmare?

The more that limited government Americans who trust the GOP to stand post end up voting out of stark fear for "anybody but" who is liberal on the Republican ticket, the more left liberalism goes.

I'd rather see McCain redux, frankly. Because if Obama or some other idiot liberal won, congress would move hard right and limited government conservatives representing the GOP would be more appealing to Americans who are becoming more and more engaged and involved in voting. They are BEGGING for a limited government GOP -- a brand they can vote for: LESS GOVERNMENT NONSENSE. Guys like Romney make them cynical and apathetic. Why the hell even vote if Republican or Democrat alike, he/she's going to increase the government monkey on free peoples' backs and nose in their lives?

Republicans + huge sums of money + “Da Boy (Romney) + political favors promised + representation only for big business and the wealthy “fat cats” = business as usual.

With the Republicans you actually get what you pay for...everything for special interests with deep pockets...nothing for the serfs and unwashed.

Mitt Romney, the multi-millionaire...

STOP!! STOP!!

When has Barack Hussein Obama been called "the multi-millionaire"? Or Nancy Pelosi? Or Harry Reid? Or Joe Biden?

Seriously Reuters, do you think we don't notice the uneven coverage based on party identification?

Well I think I catch your drift, but I don’t think it’s controlling.

Nobody can predict the future; nevertheless, we all try. I find it hard to imagine a non-0bama dem candidate running in 2012. Very hard. Borderline impossible. To the extent of my own inability to imagine a non-0bama dem candidate, then I guess I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Donald Duck nominated for the dems. And Romney could beat Donald Duck.

If Romney runs against 0bama, I don’t think he wins. I myself would rather vote for a fire hydrant than Barack 0bama, but I’m only one vote. But I imagine the voters who like 0bama would rather vote for 0bama than any white guy, any white gal, anyone who talks conservatism, or anyone who doesn’t promise infinite skittles and vague sacrifice (by someone else. That’s about as advanced as my analysis gets. To beat 0bama will require an exceptional candidate IMHO, and Romney ain’t it.
