A 73-year-old man shot dead five people around Yuma, Arizona, before turning a gun on himself, police said.
Another victim was flown about 180 miles northeast to a Phoenix-area hospital after being seriously injured, Yuma Police Sgt. Clint Norred said in a joint press release with the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.
According to Yuma police, an "elderly male" went into a business in the city limits and shot an adult male. Police Chief Jerry Geier later identified this victim as Jerrold Shelley, a local attorney.
The four others were killed in greater Yuma County, where the other person was injured, according to Yuma Police Officer Cruz Vidal.
Police determined that these shootings were linked and identified the suspect as Carey Hal Dyess, a 73-year-old Yuma man.
Around 11:30 a.m., Yuma County sheriff's deputies found Dyess dead off U.S. Highway 95 in Blaisdell, a community east of Yuma. He died from "what appears to be ... a self-inflicted gunshot wound," police said.

Glad he did not kill anybody important.
I think WTF? qualifies here.
WT_? Any Arizona Freepers out there know what this is about?
here’s some more info.
is this Sheriff Dumbrick’s area?
Why would an old man kill a lawyer?
Did he spend most of his life in prison?
How were the other victims connected?
Trying to think of the ol’ saw that goes something like this... if you mess with an old person they’ll just kill you. Not justifying anything as my awareness of the facts are limited to what I read in the thread. In the same vein, old people are also far more successful in their suicide attempts than the youngsters are by a wide margin. Old fogeys don’t play.
Looks like a case of “settling old debts” with finality.
Dyess under duress.... Dang.
Looks like he was just driving around, shooting people to death.
>>>Old white guy was mentioned<<<
Boy, that didn’t take any time to give a description of the shooter.
Meanwhile, reports of other shooting victims had come into the sheriffs office from different locations in the county.
We concluded all the shootings were likely related, Geier said.
By 10 a.m. local time, police had identified the shooter, Hyland said.
We knew what the suspect looked like. They knew what he was driving a PT Cruiser, Hyland said. Police looked for an old white guy wearing a green shirt.
The city locked down schools and sent extra police patrols to City Hall.

“Why would an old man kill a lawyer?”
The article linked at #6 indicates it was a divorce issue.
Maybe the attorney was his wife’s lawyer?
No, we have our own Yuma county sheriff.
It seems statistically odd that a 73 year old would go on a killing spree.
Dyess shot a divorce attorney multiple times. He told the deceaseds’ secretary to either leave or get down, prior to shooting the attorney.
Cpl. David Rodriguez, of the Wellton Police Department, added that the shootings were connected to a divorce gone bad.
“divorce gone bad”
No reasonable man would justify this. Though if this is about divorce I’m not shocked. Liberal society has made divorce such an easy option. With the huge number of men whose lives are ripped apart every day, I’m actually quite surprised a lot more don’t do something very foolish like this.
After a hard day in Yuma Dyess felt just shot!
