WASHINGTON – Michelle Obama announced Friday that she's heading to Africa on an official visit later this month, stopping in South Africa and Botswana to continue her work encouraging young people around the world to become active in their countries.
The first lady will visit Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa and Gaborone, Botswana, during the June 21-26 trip.

Well, if it’s an official visit, then I’m sure no civic minded taxper would object to footing the bill, but if it was just sightseeing.....

You mean she’s NOT going to encourage them to hate and abhor the US WHILE they are recipients of US aid?
If the house wanted to do something about the deficit/spending, they should put a limit on the number of trips and the number of people involved with each of them, as well as a dollar limit per trip. That would resonate with the average voter in 2012 as real saving that they could “see” being taken by the republicans.
Make yourself at home Michelle....stay awhile.
And to clean up any loose ends especially as to more relief ships that won’t be hijacked. If she is going there to sight out a future family home it would be a good sign for the USA. However, I suspect once Obama gets back to Kenya/Africa he will be immune from any USA laws.
Those Black polls must be falling so she needs to take a vacation to their homeland. Maybe she can pick up a BC while she’s there.

That really is the worst excuse I’ve heard. At least just call it a ‘goodwill tour,’ which is perfectly common, but to couch it as some sort of continuing ‘work’ for some amorphous higher calling regarding African civil engagement is pathetic. It’s a chance to take mom and kids to see Africa, and be treated like royalty, that’s all.
The kids will be out of school. Will she be taking them??
