An attorney for John Edwards said outside the Winston-Salem federal courthouse today that the felony indictment against the two-time presidential candidate is unprecedented in campaign finance history and that Edwards will plead not guilty.

An attorney for John Edwards said outside the Winston-Salem federal courthouse today that the felony indictment against the two-time presidential candidate is unprecedented in campaign finance history and that Edwards will plead not guilty.

"He has broken no law, and we will defend this case vigorously," said Gregory Craig of the Skaddenarps law firm of Washington, D.C. Craig was previously White House counsel for President Barack Obama and is now lead counsel on Edwards' case. "This is an unprecedented prosecution, much less an unprecedented civil case."

Craig made the statement as Edwards waited inside the courthouse to appear at a 2:30 p.m. hearing in U.S. District Court on the felony indictment handed up this morning. Edwards is accused of using campaign funds to take care of his mistress and their baby during the peak of his 2008 campaign.

Well, that didn't take too long. "I did not break the law." Most perps say the very same thing.

“This is an unprecedented prosecution, much less an unprecedented civil case.”

That makes Edwards an unprecedented scumbag.

Rush was saying something on his show that the police showed up at Edwards residence to “perp walk” him, but by then he had got notice from his legal team that the indictment was on it's way, so he “hid out” until it was released, then went straight to courthouse and turned himself in to avoid being “perp walked”.

...then went straight to courthouse and turned himself in to avoid being “perp walked”.

Heard he had to be drug tested while in there. Probably fingerprinted, too. They might as well fit him for an orange jumpsuit.

“then went straight to courthouse”

His house is in Raleigh.
The courthouse is in Winston-Salem.

At the very least his defense will cost millions.

Not sure if the following is appropriate:

The United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina serves 44 North Carolina counties from Raleigh to the Atlantic coast. The Clerk of Court has staffed offices in Greenville, Raleigh, and Wilmington. Court is held in six cities in the District: Elizabeth City, Fayetteville, Greenville, New Bern, Raleigh, and Wilmington. The Offices are open from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with the exception of Federal Holidays, or by order of the court. Pleadings may be filed in the Office of the Clerk in Raleigh, Greenville, or Wilmington regardless of the division or judge to which the case is assigned.

Whether he broke a law is up to the courts, but bet his late wife could attest to a vow broken here and there. I’m glad that it looks like Rielle is getting the heave ho (no pun intended) according to the tabs because of being a bit lax with the sex tape.

The courts will decide whether he broke the law, but bet his late wife could attest to a few vows broken here and there. Only good thing, out of this issue of mis use of funds and the unsecured sex tape issue by Rielle, it seems the Rielle is getting the “heave ho” (no pun intended), according to the tabs.

At least Edwards can take comfort in knowing he won’t go to GITMO since his lawyer was so successful in getting that shut down.
