As you may have heard by now, San Francisco will be voting this November on whether or not to ban circumcision in the city.
Defenders of the measure say it’s all about “human rights” and “protecting babies” from unnecessary procedures.
But critics suspected there was something vaguely anti-Semitic about the whole proposal, since among Jews (and Muslims, as well) circumcising male babies is a religious duty, not just a mistaken medical procedure.
Ban proponents insisted their proposal had nothing to do with Jews — really, it’s all about the rights of children.
Well, any doubt that they were lying have now been dispelled, with the publication of new campaign literature for the upcoming circumcision ban. The campaign comic book, called “Foreskin Man,” after its baby-saving superhero, features a litany of evil Jews doing battle with blond Nordic saviors.
Yes, really.
(Oh, and did I mention the artist’s last name is Hess? A relative of Rudolph, perhaps?)

you are so right..kill the baby but make sure it has rights. I don't believe in circumcision, I'm not and I've noticed no adverse situations.....other than some explaining in my high school baseball locker room. I'm not in favor of either male or female genital abuse. Circumcision is absolutely unnecessary and quite painful....think about it

Regardless of your position on abortion anyone that can make this statement and support abortion is a first class hypocrite at the least. It is all about control, it has nothing to do with anything else.
Ummm, it’s pretty much a tradition with Christians as well, harkening back to the Jewish roots of Christianity.

I do, and it’s still the most beautiful place in the whole country. Further, most of it isn’t anything like San Francisco (or LA for that matter) in terms of it’s population. Just ask Jim Rob.

Ok, thought about it. It was a Tuesday, sun was out, quite a few people were over the house. I was so bombed on wine I had no clue what the moil was doing. He could have done brain surgery and to some snarky women, they would say that it was.
My only issue with it was I didn’t get ice cream afterwards.
At 8 days, not a problem. It is my birthright as a Jew. At 8 years because some lunatic thinks he’s god, yeah I have a problem.
As a side note, it hurts more to have a wisdom tooth pulled.

How come you don’t know how to spell “mohel?”
I don’t normally call people on spelling errors; after all, everybody makes typos. Except me, fo course.
But it’s really odd that someone who would let a mohel cut his dingus (sometimes known as “the incredible male cruelty”) wouldn’t even know how to spell the word.

There is or was a doctor in the SF Bay Area that had (may still have) a radio show, Dr. Dean Adel (sp)who was a big pusher of this. Seems like every month he would go off on a rant, looks like he has enough turned to make it real.
I have an iPad. Spell check catches everything. Didn’t catch that.
Then again, maybe my iPad was made in Frisco.

Disease prevention? Circumcision does nothing to protect against herpes, hpv or numerous other STDs. Only in the most extreme genetic cases do we preemptively remove breast tissue to prevent cancer.
Hygiene? The human race survived and thrived with foreskins for millennia without the tools of modern hygiene. We don't remove toenails at birth to prevent fungal infections, why cut genitalia?
The practice is sexist. Why are all forms of female circumcision/genital mutilation prohibited but not male varieties?
Finally, and this is one that irritates me the most, it treats male children as property. It fundamentally violates unalienable human rights of the individual. How is a person pro-life, attesting to the distinct individual in the womb, and supportive of unnecessary circumcision of the newborn? The disconnect is shocking.
I'm not particularly moved by the religious practice argument. We're dealing with separate and defenseless persons who can later in life choose, of their own free will, to obtain a circumcision.
In the United States we have limits on parent's religious practice when it jeopardizes a child's safety: snake handlers, faith healers, ritual sacrifice and so forth. A ban on medically unnecessary male circumcision seems like it would be in keeping with those principles.
It's unfortunate the debate has degenerated into accusations of anti-Semitism. Charges of racism are frequently leveled when people would rather silence debate rather than confront issues on the merits.
