John Edwards indictment a vindication for National Enquirer
Washington Times ^ | June 3, 2011 | Emily Miller

Posted on 06/04/2011 3:21:37 AM PDT by Opinionatedtoday

A federal grand jury returned a six-count indictment today against John Edwards, the former senator and two-time presidential candidate. The government charges vindicate the story that the National Enquirer broke four and a half years ago: that Mr. Edwards was having an affair with Rielle Hunter and she was pregnant.

Executive Editor Barry Levine oversaw the Enquirer’s team of reporters and photographers who relentlessly pursued the story that turned out to be a blockbuster. “It’s been a long road and today’s indictment is vindication that this little supermarket tabloid exposed this massive cover-up,” Mr. Levine told The Washington Times. “We did our job. We got the facts right on this from the get-go. It’s amazing and a shame that the mainstream media couldn’t have followed our lead and pursued the story.”

The big difference is that the National Enquirer is NOT an integral part of the DEMOCRAP PARTY, unlike the MSM!

They are about 99 percent right...otherwise....they would be sued on a constant basis. The amusing part to the Enquirer these days...is that they’ve lost a fair amount of their business since the recession hit.

Yesterday Marvin Kalb was interviewed by Juan Williams, and he defended the MSM. It's going to take the National Enquirer to follow Anthony Weiner.

“Edwards’ DAUGHTER, Cate, was by his side when he appeared in the North Carolina court Friday afternoon for the charges stemming from allegations that he used campaign funds to cover up his affair and illegitimate child with his campaign videographer Rielle Hunter.”

In the end, however, the self-appointed media elite who run the Pulitzer committee did not give the paper even a mention in the prizes. The previous year, The New York Times won for its work exposing the Eliot Spitzer sex scandal, which did not end in criminal charges - instead he got his own show on CNN. “It still stings that the Pulitzer committee didn’t feel we were worthy of some type of acknowledgement, event a mention or a runner up of the work we did,” Mr. Levine said.
No surprise.

Google: Walter Duranty

The Pulitzer Prize committee was a Stalinist front organization. Now it's just a bunch of tired old leftist hacks.

A few things bother me.

John Edwards was a rich man, and a lawyer.

Why would he be so stupid as to use campaign funds for this cover up? Too cheap to use his own money?

John Edwards is a Democrat.

Strange that Government is so hard of him. Makes you wonder who he pissed off in the administration.

Next we all know that there are a lot of funny things that happened in Obama’s fund raising, when do we see the investigation into his activities?

The real indictment is against the media. It is a very sad commentary on the state of the American press that a silly supermarket gossip rag does the investigative reporting and the more respected media carries the water for the state and its elite.

The purpose of the National Petroleum Reserve is not and should not be used to regulate price at the pump gasoline.

If we want lower gasoline prices there is a simple answer. Open up drilling where we already know there is oil. Build new refineries. Remove environmental restrictions that were created simply to stop oil drilling.

Just the threat of doing these things will get OPEC to back off on the price of a barrel of oil. But even if they do, we should become an oil exporter then an oil importer.

This nation does not have an energy crisis, we have a man made shortage caused by environmentalist, and their friends on the left.

This guy is such a pitiful loser I actually detected a twinge of pity registering, ever so fleetingly, for him.

clearly he is less-than-zero without his wife. May God forgive her bad judgment.

No, he was afraid of his wife, you apparently kept the checkbook and ran the family finances. She would have noticed.

REALLY TACKY!!.

Gawd that's the best description of him and his saga that I've ever seen. And, yeah, after I posted, I realized his wife married the sleazeball with her eyes open.

I just tend to think compassionately. Clearly this world is no place for a human being.

The National Enquirer has more credibility than the NY Times.

iirc, They also broke the OJ story showing him wearing those butt-ugly Italian shoes OJ denied ever having - which bloody shoe prints were left at the crime scene.

That photo and article pretty much made the Civil Case for Fred Goldman and family.

Sorry, but Elizabeth did some awfully tacky things herself. Didn’t she call up Larry King’s to attack his guest? Anyway, she certainly was his match in a different form.

At one point some lawyer named Kindell was a lawyer for both The Nat'l Enquirer and hillary.

“Ole pretty boy better save up enough money for a case of soap-on-a-rope.”

Right on. The theory about the support payments being a form of illegal campaign contributions is a bit flaky and might not stand up, especiallhy on appeal. However, there’s also a signficiant false statements count in the indictment. Sleazy as Edwards is, you can take it to the bank that he told a nunmber of lies to the feds in the course of the investigation. All you need to do is remember two words to see what’s going to happen to the Silky Pony: Scooter Libby, even though poor Scooter was innocent.

“Why would he be so stupid as to use campaign funds for this cover up? Too cheap to use his own money?”

Two points:

1) There’s a good chance he neve thought the funds were campaign funds since they were transferred directly from his supporters to his mistress. Indeed, this is the tough part of the indictment for the feds sincde they’re alledging the funds were campiagn money, although never treated by Edwards as campaign money, because the money was used to keep his mistress quiet, thereby enabling Edwards to campaign as the upright family man he wasn’t.

2) Using his own money to support the slut would have exposed him to less campiagn financing risk; however, that large an expenditure of family funds probably would have caught Elizabeth’s interest, resulting in difficult questions that would have caused the soft, brown, smelly stuff to hit the fan.

I worked on a popular sitcom with actors who were covered regularly in the Enquirer.

Every article they wrote about the show and the actors was ninety-five percent true.

The MSM doesn’t have that kind of track record.
