Time for Obama to end efforts to tear down Texas
Houston Chronicle ^ | 2nd June, 2011 | Bill Hammond

Posted on 06/06/2011 9:04:29 AM PDT by shield

There are enough examples of the Obama administration's attacks on Texas to make a David Letterman Top 10 list. But, there's really nothing funny about the full frontal assault that's come out of Washington against our state in recent months.

Texas versus Washington talk is popular political chatter, but if you move beyond the rhetoric there's substantial evidence that President Barack Obama's administration is waging a strategic and sustained campaign against lives and livelihoods in the Lone Star state .

With all due respect, the president and his administration's hell-bent determination to tear down Texas could be better focused on more pressing matters like reining in debt and reforming entitlements.

The moves against Texas are well documented, some are more bold and brazen than others, and they amount to a war by regulation and executive order that's aimed at knocking Texas off its leadership position.

And lead Texas does. Chief Executive's seventh annual ranking on the best and worst states in which to do business put Texas on top for the 7th year in a row.

Less business-friendly states like the president's home state of Illinois (No. 48) and others sympathetic to his politics and anti-business policies (New York No. 49 and California No. 50) languish in the bottom three spots of the annual survey of the country's CEOs.

Typical Texas solipsism.

Obama is not trying to tear down Texas, he is trying to crash the entire country.

Even the THREAT of secession would be effective...but Texas must be a different place these days, since recently they couldn’t even raise the gumption to pass a law against govt goons groping Texans at airports.
So it seems rather unlikely that Texas would secede or seriously consider same.

why shouldn’t you say it? I’d walk away in a heart beat with my right hand fully extended and middle finger pointing at DC, New York and all the really, really, really smart people in California.

The first fences I’d put up would be on the Red River and Sabine before the Rio Grande.

I’d encourage immigration by sponsorship. A citizen would have to vouch for an immigrant and guarantee a job before he/she gets here. No government assistance of any kind for 10 years and if job is lost, no governmental subsidy and the sponsor is responsible for debts. ........that’s just for starters.

Watch what you say, you will be flamed with, “Can’t do that, the Civil War settled that.” The Civil War did not settle sheesh. The Texas Consitution still lives.

Move the border to the Red, annex Mexico, and export labor to the rest of the country.

IMO Sam Houston et al wanted to join the USA for protection. They were completely unaware of how blessed Texas was with the oil, the other treasures and a streak of independence that would make this place so successful. I am reasonably sure that if Texas were still an independent republic, and some here wanted to join the USA as it appears today (big government, welfare state, unending debt), the harmless ones would be laughed at unmercifully. The fanatics would be tarred and feathered and given a telephone pole ride to the Red River.

Upon reflection, I’m not sure why we don’t do some of that tar and feathering these days. It’s not like we don’t have a surplus of deserving folk ...

No Texas does not need to “secede”...Texas and the other sane states in the Union need to joint together and TAKE BACK THE COUNTRY!...reimpose the 10th amendments and put the Federal role back in is proper place

The only legal and peaceful way for a state to “secede”is by constitutional amendments or constitutional convention to vote a state "out"....It the states and their votes on constitutional amendments that have the final say on the constitution and the country...if the states have the power to secede, the states have the power to save the country

Texas = success
Obama hates success that’s not beholden to him; therefore, Obama hates Texas.

The feeling, “dear leader”, is mutual.

Texas came into the union retaining the right to secede if it didn’t like the way things were going. If I recall correctly, the US Congress would have no say in it, and the US Constitution would not be involved.

That illegal alien in the WH...feels Texas is a threat...in completely destroying America. IF Texas can’t be stopped then destruction of America will not be complete...that’s my take on his hatred for Texas.
