BIG news for supporters of the rule of law on immigration. 2 weeks after ruling in favor of AZ's law targeting employers who hire illegals- the U.S. Supreme Court voided a lower court ruling blocking Hazelton's law that does the same and also targets landlords who rent to illegals. The Court ordered the 3rd Court of Appeals to reconsider the case in light of the pro-AZ ruling, and may signal a major legal shift in our direction.

It's pretty easy to look up US Restrictions on Foreign Ownership of Land ~ lots of stuff there ~ and there really are restrictions, and there are Supreme Court decisions supporting those restrictions.

I'd suppose if you can restrict ownership you can certainly restrict rental!

The Supreme Court may not care to overturn two centuries of land ownership law just to let a couple of Mexicans who aren't here legally to rent a room in Pennsylvania.

So what! If the justices decided cases on whether or not someone was going to demagogue an issue, they'd never decide anything. Better that they just do the right thing as they see it, and let the chips fall where they may.

Alabama may soon be in the hopper to test the reach of these decisions.

Legislature just passed a similar law to the Arizona ID check law, but also added the ‘police can check immigration status’ parts from the other law.

Also requires schools to check for valid US brith certificate, and state offices to verify immigration status.

Yeah. Let's target everyone except the politicians who pander to illegals, the cops who daily drive by their shape-ups, all those INS Federales whose salaries we pay, and the illegals themselves. Let's criminalize everyone else.

Alabama Immigration Law requirements:

•The bill requires all businesses, public and private, to begin using E-Verify effective April 1, 2012. Businesses that do not comply face suspension of its business license and loss of employee expensing for state income tax purposes. All state and local businesses must be in compliance by Jan. 1, 2012 or face loss of business license and contract;

•Creates an affirmative defense against business penalties if E-Verify is used. Prohibits lawsuits against businesses that fire an employee due to an E-Verify final non-confirmation determination;

•Require state and local governments to use the SAVE system to verify public-benefits eligibility for those attesting to be non-citizens;

•Creates a misdemeanor for failure to carry an alien registration document;

•Requires police, after a lawful stop and when practicable, to check a person’s immigration status if the officer has a reasonable suspicion that the person is illegally present. Provides 4th amendment protections and stays the status-check requirement for persons who are crime victims or witnesses;

•Creates misdemeanors for seeking day-laborer work when illegal present and hiring illegally-present day laborers. Creates misdemeanors for aiding and abetting illegal aliens; Ban illegal aliens from state universities and colleges;

•Prohibits sanctuary policies and provides non-compliance penalties;

•Requires the Attorney General to apply for a 287(g) MOU
for state police;

•Creates a crime for producing fake IDs; and

•Requires elementary and secondary schools to request a birth certificate for all enrolling students and to determine whether such children were born outside of the U.S. or are children of illegal aliens requiring English-as-a-Second-language classes. Requires the collection of statistics and a determination of the costs related to illegal-alien students

This happened to be the case before the court, and the court did the right thing.

The day can't come soon enough for me when the SCOTUS is asked to rule in some way on what really is the official sanctioning of illegal immigration. I just pray for the health of the non-leftwing nutbar court members.
