Yup, that could be what’s going on here. The other scenario is that the wife files and the husband suddenly doesn’t have any assets for her to claim half of. They finally settle and shortly thereafter he’s miraculously back “in the money”. I’ve seen both games play out.

She also filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the Northern District of Texas last month. Things are not good.
