That $1500 went straight to the friendly neighborhood meth dealer.

So taking them to a less honest scrapper would prevent that?

There is no bottom to that low.

The scrap dealer, should have just made an excuse, stepped away and called the police at that time.

I was watching "American Picker" one night, and they had found an very, very old cross from a cemetery, can't remember if it had a name. They bought it because of course they could sell at a profit to some decorator, disgusting, and he thought it was cool. Don't watch them anymore

Anyway, I think there really should be a law on dealing in grave markers, just as Ivory tusks. There is no need in anyone owning these things.

The very old grave markers are beautiful and I love seeing them. What despicable people to steal these things.

I thought, what kind of lowlife DOES that

During my time in the Coast Guard stationed up in Maine we would run across Buoy's missing their bells, and gongs. low life's would cut them off with a torch and then sell the brass or metal they were made of. that was back in the 60s I was aboard a Buoy tender then.

Are these the metal flag holders? My husband had two of them , WWII & Korean War, both are missing.

He was 15, lied about his age and enlisted in the Merchant Marines.....served about 6mths before they discharged him. But he did see action.

Ah...my plot to remove respect for the military is working. Next step is to cut funding. I’m sure these people will support that.

Bring back public flogging and the stockades.
For some, there is no other way to learn.

And that certainly seems to be the most appropriate penalty for this despicable crime.

Not at all. I'm pointing out that the scrapper spent that money knowing he'd never see it again. It was a selfless act on his part for the deceased.

Agreed. Wonder if the police were on the ball and got the perps before they cashed the check?

The only time I brought scrap to a dealer, they made a copy of my driver’s license, inspected and weighed the stuff (brass and copper), gave me a slip, and I fed that into an on-site ATM machine which doled out the cash. That was the only ATM I ever saw that had $100 bills in it.

So, yes, they do keep track of who brings them stuff.

This is nothing new. Ruptured Ducks have been disappearing from cemeteries in my area for years. The scrap dealers need to stop buying these items.

.
As usual, you’re an idiot.

The scrap yard is who turned them in. They knowingly took a loss to do what was right.
