Obama losing the youth vote 'because white students don't think he's cool anymore'
Mail Online ^ | June 7, 2011 | Paul Bentley

President Barack Obama famously won the 2008 election on a wave of support from America's youth. But any hopes the 49-year-old had of keeping down with the kids appear to have faded - his support from young people is rapidly waning, a poll has found. And for a man known for his 'jacket off' casual style the reason for this slump may be particularly hurtful - students are abandoning the President because they do not think he is cool anymore, it has been claimed.

Obama won because he stole large shares of older people's votes as well, research suggests. In Virginia, for example, he reached 55 per cent of seniors, whereas John McCain wooed just 45 per cent. The Obama campaign denied that the President had lost his support from young people, pointing out that its summer organiser programme has had more applications this year than ever before.

According to the National Journal's Ronald Brownstein report, President Obama has dramatically lost support from young people - and particularly young white people - in America since 2008. His approval rating among those aged 18 to 29 is currently at 56 per cent - a huge fall of ten points since the 2008 exit polls.

Going through their minds:
“I voted for 0bama to assuage my white guilt. I thought that this whole ‘race’ thing would be a thing of the past. But 0bama has ramped up race tensions to a whole new level. I got RIPPED OFF!”

That’s because all of these young people are unemployed. Applications for just about everything are likely “more ...this year than ever before.”

"Obama losing the youth vote 'because white students don't think he's cool anymore'"

America's youth may not be too bright - but they know when they've been had.
Our "cool" president is really a mom-jean wearing "Hipster-Doofus".

White students are notoriously finicky. You tell them you're going to heal the environment, by gosh and by golly, you better heal the environment.

You tell them you're going to bring peace, love and harmony to the world, you better bring peace, love and harmony to the world.

You tell them everybody will be able to sleep till noon and then take a two hour lunch break and then leave early and still make money hand over fist, well, you best bring about economic conditions that will allow them to sleep till noon, then take a two hour lunch break and then leave early and spend all the money that's spilling out of every tree, rock and turtle they come across.

Or there will be hell to pay next time around.

Ex-students (who cannot get a job) will be the first to bail on O.

Students see that college does not result in a job and O’s charisma falls away.

O is a job killer and students feel the results first.

Heh, heh.

Poetic justice. Just a few short years ago, DemocRATS (led by one of my two pathetic Senators, Dianne Feinstein) were lambasting President George H.W. Bush's economy as being nothing but "burger flipping" jobs.

Now they're hanging their hats on those same jobs.

In your face, DiFries.

The President won the 2008 election by 7.4%.

At least 3, possibly 4 or those percentage points can be described as entirely new votes: students who had never voted before and African-American voters who had never voted before.

They were highly motivated for that one election - but that motivation has now largely evaporated.

It will be another stage in their education when these white students are called "RACIST!" come 2012.

That is after being called "STUPID" for thinking this guy was cool:

He’s not cool. Never was. He’s an arrogant little snot who needed to get beaten up a couple of times as a kid, instead of protected, coddled, and told “you’re right, Barry” at every opportunity.

The 2008 college students will be the 2012 unemployed graduates. Eating mom's cooking after you should be out on your own isn't all that cool. The new college students will see him as the old president and not as the new prince of hope and change.

And, let’s not forget the rampant vote fraud in every city precinct in the country.

I think they would be happy eating mom's cooking. The problem is, mom has had to switch to cheaper cuts of meat and lower quality ingredients because of rising food prices exponentially increased by skyrocketing fuel costs.

Same thing the dopes in my generation learned with Jimmy Carter. He was so cool in 1976. And Gerald Ford was about as exciting as Juan McCain. It was my first election and I didn't vote for either. But a lot of my generation voted for Jimbo.

Four years later, a lot of us had degrees and no job with which to use those degrees. Most of us wised up.

Student loan payments have to be made on time as soon as you graduate, whether you have a job or not. A harsh reality in the Jimmy Carter era. A harsh reality still in the ObaMao era.

“no longer think he is cool, according to those at Oberlin College, which is known for its hipster left-wing activism”

I think the article is talking about this place:

“Oberlin College is a private liberal arts college in Oberlin, Ohio”

https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Oberlin_College

What kind of jobs could these people get anyway? Government jobs? I think it’s another reason to cut the government budget but will Republicans do it? I’m not holding my breath.

Fortunately, I was able to put both my kids through college without loans. They got to start fresh.

Both worked very hard in college and have good jobs.

Coolness, or a perceived lack of it, is no reason to vote for or against a candidate. Made that point to my college-age niece & her idiot Obama T-shirt wearin’ friends back in ‘08.

“So you think coolness is a qualification for being president?”

Then I remembered... this is the generation that considers The Dailey Show & The Colbert Report to be “News”. Everything has to be a joke, so why not their candidate?

Watch for Obama to propose a change to that law... He doesn't actually have to do it, only suggest that we should. All the little college kiddies & recent grads will fall for it.

I still have some sympathy for students who were sucked in to buying a defective product. If you buy a new automobile which turns out to be a lemon you can, for instance, demand a completely new replacement after several failed attempts to fix it.

In an ideal world, the government would get out of the student loan business completely and it would be privatized. Lenders would give a great interest rate to someone majoring in nursing, mechanical engineering or something with good employment prospects. They would have to charge a premium interest rate for someone majoring in ethnic or gender studies or any other of the pseudo sciences.

It’s hard to keep supporting someone who thinks the economy is fine when you’ve been frced to move home with Mom and Dad and even jobs like working at McD’s are out of your reach.Add $4 gas to that and being 24 and stuck at home isn’t that fun these days.

This 26-year-old mechanical engineer agrees wholeheartedly!

That’s a very free-market approach. The well-paying jobs in high demand would be seen as less risky by lenders, so they would come with better interest rates. That would encourage students to gravitate toward those jobs, which in turn would increase the supply of those professionals to meet that demand.

It would be a self-regulating system, and our economy would be better off with it!
