'Gunwalker' guns linked to helicopter shooting
CBS News ^ | June 6, 2011 | Sharyl Attkisson

CBS News has learned that the recent case of a Mexican military helicopter forced to land after it was fired upon is linked to the ATF Fast and Furious "gunwalker" operation.

Drug cartel suspects on the ground shot at Mexican government helicopters two weeks ago in western Mexico, forcing one chopper to land. Authorities seized more than 70 assault rifles and other weapons from the suspects.

Among the seized weapons are guns sold to suspects as part of the ATF sting operation, sources say. That information came from traces of serial numbers.

Gunrunning scandal uncovered at the ATF

"Shooting at an aircraft is a terrorist act," says one U.S. law enforcement source. "What does that say if we're helping Mexican drug cartels engage in acts of terror? That's appalling if we could have stopped those guns."

The Department of Justice provided no information or comment when asked about the incident by CBS News.

Major ATF shakeup after "gunwalker"

In "Fast and Furious" and other southwest border anti-trafficking operations, sources say ATF allowed more than 2500 weapons to be sold to suspects. Instead of interdicting them, sources tell CBS News, ATF let the guns "walk" or hit the streets. The idea was to gain intelligence to possibly take down an entire cartel. But many of the allegedly walked weapons have shown up at crimes such as the Mexican helicopter incident, and the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry; most have never been recovered.

In the case of the Mexican helicopter, sources say some of the weapons were purchased and moved by defendants who have already been arrested and indicted for their alleged roles in helping supply drug cartels.

The link between the helicopter downing and the ATF alleged gunwalking is likely to test the already-strained US-Mexico relationship.

In recent weeks, Congressional investigators and the Inspector General have been interviewing witnesses behind closed doors in preparation for multiple hearings which could begin as early as next week. The first hearing will likely feature the ATF whistleblower who first spoke to CBS News: Special Agent John Dodson.

ATF Agent: I was ordered to let guns go into Mexico

Attorney General Eric Holder has asked the Inspector General to investigate the gunwalking allegations.

Someone in the DOJ needs to go to prison for allowing this to happen.

I think Eric Holder would look very good in an orange jumpsuit and shackles.

For me this does say that the MEXICANS should do more to seal their border. (they did not really care as long as the criminals did cross the boarder into the US. Now when some of them come back the same way they start crying out of sudden?)

I believe it was murder of an innocent man just to advocate anti gun laws and falsely accuse american gun shows of providing weapons to the mexican drug cartel. Obama, Holder and the entire DNC that advocated this; all need to not pass go and go directly to jail.

Next, a program called Nukewalker! We allow tactical nukes to be stolen and sold to Al qeida. Then when they set em off in a city, we’ll be able to all about their organization!

Stop and think. The US government sold THOUSANDS of assault rifles to the mexican cartels. Then the violence flared. And they tried to BLAME AMERICAN GUN OWNERS, and use it as a justification to restrict OUR rights. Holder isn’t going to prison for this, and Obama isn’t being impeached.

“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”

This can be seen as nothing but a design to reduce us under absolute despotism. The design is evincing, and 2012 is our last chance. Failing that, it’s probably almost time.

The irony and sadness to this is there are some loons still calling for Bush and his admin to be jailed for WHAT? War for oil? Obama is at war and went on his own and did not get the votes needed and they are all silent.

Obama, Holder and his entire as admin need tried and locked up for not only GunrunnerGate, Obstruction of Justice, murder, but also for aiding and abetting and providing comfort to terrorist enemies. WalpinGate,NBP’sGate.

The double standard is sickening.

I’ll repost this, because people seem to think that it makes an important point:

Never forget: The heart of the story is the apparent criminal conspiracy to fabricate crime scene evidence in order to gain the political power to infringe the Constitutional rights of Americans, by using “US-sourced” Mexican crime scene guns to justify restrictions on Americans buying rifles.

Yeah. Sure.

Just like Hitler asked Himmler to investigate the poor living conditions at Auschwitz. And Stalin asked the KGB to investigate food shortages in the Gulags.

Yes. I invoked 'Goodwin's Law'. But sometimes you have to.
Plus I think Goodwin was full of shiite.

I don't know if that's still an option for Federal Death Penalties in cases of Treason, but IMO it should be.

Interesting aside (or useless bit of information): Besides the typical '13' Steps up to the gallows, the 'true' Hangman's Noose has '13' Loops (Depending on the thickness of the rope). Though Six to Eight loops is now considered 'normal'.

As a kid playing Cowboys and Indians Outlaws we used mom's clothesline for our Lassos and Hangman's Noose so we used 13 loops on the Rustlers we 'captured' ;-)
