Chinese military bigwig says South China Sea belongs to China

SINGAPORE--A member of China's top military brass asserted that, according to history, the South China Sea falls under China's sovereignty.
Ouyang Wei, a colonel and a National Defense University professor, made the remark in an interview with The Asahi Shimbun on June 5 on the sidelines of the 10th Asia Security Summit, dubbed the Shangri-La dialogue.
Ouyang also said the sea area is crucial to China's interests.
It is the first time a top executive in the Chinese military has voiced such views to media.
Previously, a high-ranking Chinese government official was reported to have said in diplomatic negotiations that, from a territorial viewpoint, the South China Sea is of core interest to China, along with Taiwan and Tibet.
However, the Chinese government has not yet stated that view officially.

P!
Yea, right. LOL!
Didn’t the US 7th Fleet conduct an exercise there recently, bringing the USS Enterprise a couple of miles off of Beijing and right by Hong Kong?
Well then: we Americans will claim the Gulf of Mexico that extends from the southern most point of the State of Texas, east across to the State of Florida, and south within twenty miles of Cuba.
Anyone who tries to drill for OUR oil there will face the guns of our navy.
I think that sounds about right!
Spot on.
China, when your Pacific battle group is bigger than ours, then, and only then, can you claim the South China Sea.
I’m sure the Vietnamese will have something to say about that.China and Vietnam have not been very good friends at times and when they we’d they were friends of convenience.
Ok
It looks a good reason for developing our navy .haha
It sounds right to me too, but China has a leadership determined to strengthen China. The United States has a menagerie of eunuchs, catamites and emos in the Pustule on the Potomac, who want the international press to say sweet things about them.
Sure it is...whenever the Seventh Fleet isn't there.
With the leverage China holds due to our debt, we’re not in a position to say anything.
Check out map LINK...
and the US told the Philippines to settle the problem "peacefully", even though the Chinese are putting settlers on these small islands so they can claim the area, and the Chinese gun boats are shooting at Filipino fishermen who traditionally fish in the area.
Obama's pacifism is encouraging this. My take Here
just wait and see
Ten years later
Your country will pay for your arrogance
American people are full of love peace merciful justic and hero .if someone
disagree ..........where is our seventh fleet
I challenge them ChiComs to try and beat this http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/us_pacific_territory.html which is something which I would deem as America’s [core interests] far far from the US mainland if — the South China Sea is to China, it’s core interest...(:) (:) (:) ...
So, for the Mr. Vo Nguyen Giap’s of Nam: Go for it, guys! Go and take them ChiCom’s on!!! I mean you’ve taken on tasks bigger than the ChiCom’s — the Americans that is — and you came out the victor, by your own standards only of course...
Good job Mr. Giap & Co., you won the war fair and square because, you didn’t need any USS Nimitzs, any Voodoos, any Thunderchiefs, any Phantoms, or any Crusaders flown by John McCain’s, any B-52s or any Apache helicopter gunships to do the job for you...
“All it took is but a few million, yes just a few million Vietnamese lives to do it and [Vietnamese lives is dime a dozen and plenty to be had in Nam]!!!”
Yes, Go for it, all you Vo Nguyen Giap’s out there http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-13664408 ...go and take the ChiCom’s on!!!! I mean hell! All it’ll take is but a few more million Vietnamese lives and it’ll be a guaranteed you’ll go back to square one again!!!!
And after they build their sovereign economic zone in Idaho, they’ll say the Western United States belongs to them too.
Perhaps, but it won't be at the hand of the Chinese Navy.
If the US stopped all building and all weapons development for 20 years we could still cruise into the Yellow Sea with a Carrier Battle Group or two...with impunity. Even during the most recent North Korean dust-up we did just that while radiating fire control radars and launching aircraft.
Not only did the PLAN stay in port, the Chinese Air Force wouldn't even come out to play tag.
Oh, and if the Chinese ever took a shot...and hit something like a Carrier at sea...they need to think about the OTHER insurmountable superiority of US Forces: We outnumber DELIVERABLE strategic weapons of the Chinese by around 1000:1.
Oh, one other thing: All US Strategic Weapons Work.
Gee, I wonder when China will sail a Carrier Battle Group into the Gulf of Mexico and hang out practicing offensive operations for a few weeks? Any ideas?
You watch too much TV.
We are the most effective and ruthless warriors in history, so far.
