Stars collide: Michele Bachmann vs. Sarah Palin
Politico ^ | 06/08/2011 | BEN SMITH & MAGGIE HABERMAN

Posted on 06/08/2011 4:46:53 AM PDT by Hawk720

[snip beginning of article]

... Ed Rollins, dismissed Palin as “not serious” in a radio interview.

He suggested in an interview with POLITICO that Bachmann would profit from the contrast.

Bachmann will “be so much more substantive,” Rollins said. “People are going to say, ‘I gotta make a choice and go with the intelligent woman who’s every bit as attractive.’”

“I’m not afraid of Palin,” he said, adding the strategy would have been the same for Mike Huckabee.

Bachmann has been laying the groundwork for this argument for months, stepping away from some of the more dramatic rhetoric that brought her to prominence in the heady, early days of the Tea Party movement, and making a case more focused on the nuts and bolts of policy and on the unabashed social conservatism that has served many candidates well in they key early state of Iowa. She has been tightening her focus as Palin offers herself as an increasingly high-profile, if unfocused, cultural celebrity with an East Coast bus tour last week and a laudatory new movie set for release.

Aides to Palin didn’t respond to inquiries about Rollins’ comments, but a writer on the blog that serves as her supporters’ main voice, Conservatives4Palin, demanded that the Minnesota congresswoman “either affirm her support for the long-time beltway fossil’s idiotic comments…or refudiate them.”

While Bachmann may find some advantages in a contrast with Palin, it’s an approach that could easily backfire. Palin remains broadly popular with the conservative voters who will decide the Republican nomination, and her endorsement will be avidly sought if she doesn’t run.

Just the headline - 'Bachmann vs. Palin' is same old same old STUPID Party stuff.

Attention GOP Conservative Candidates - the enemy is primarily Ma0bama and his band of socialists, and secondarily the squishy GOP Establishment moderates. NOT each other! Just damn.

Sarah is my first choice, if she runs.

I like Michelle and would work for her.

Ed rollins is a slimey, beltway turd that should be flushed and kept out of any pubbie candidate's campaign.

re: “I’m not afraid of Palin,” he said

That one little phrase tells us all we need to know about this man! It's not about YOU, Mr. Rollins. It's about the candidate you are supposed to represent. If you can't set aside your personal love of self long enough to act in your candidate's best interest then she's better off without you.

I put this man in the same category I put Karl Rove, yesterday's news and talent.

Ms. Bachmann will be making a huge mistake if she doesn't give this guy the boot post haste.

Not a smart move by Rollins, but I have heard worse. I think we have to remember this a primary not a coronation and this will be mild if Palin gets in and a the race distills down to 2 or three people. Team Obama and the John Stewart Wing of the Dem party will go after Palin with such hatred and viciousness Rollins will be the least of her worries.

Why would Palin have to fix anything? It appears that all of these comments were made yesterday. For all we know Bachmann has already had words with Rollins. But if this is her strategy I think it’s unwise and very unfortunate.

Ah, yo Ed—”The Sarah is dumb” train has long since come and gone. Where were you and Michelle when Palin—without benefit of anything more than Twitter—was taking the Marxist Onada head on with substantive criticism?

You are a fossil who’s come way too late to the game—and will leave it early. My esteem of Bachman plunged with her decision to hire you as her campaign manager. Do her a favor and go away. Surely you can find something constructive to do with Rove—the other RINO fossil.

Exactly. But this was stupid because Palin is not even a candidate and it's not 100% certain she will be. Will be interesting to see what other campaigns do. Tim Pawlenty is the only one who has come close saying last week we need to stop talking about bus tours. I'm sure he's not happy because he's trying to get his name out there and all the oxygen is being sucked up by Palin's 'not a campaign' bus tour.

Who’s fault is that? If Tim had any charisma to overcome his low name recognition, he will be doing very well but as it’s stands he doesn’t but your gal is blowing this up and you still try to defend her when she needs to get rid of Rollins because no matter what she says apologetic to Sarah, if she keeps him, a group of people who may support MB will not in the future

Hiring Rollins is pretty strong evidence that MB is not ready to make executive decisions. Her first executive decision was probably the worst decision of her soon to be over political career.

The only way she can save it will be to fire Rollins today and apologize to Palin. Now is the time to make a tough and decisive executive decision.

If Bachmann is a Freeper, then the comments on these threads should scare her to death. She is just about to lose her entire base and Rollins is no friend of hers.

Huh? I'm not saying it's anyone's fault, I'm saying his team (and probably others as well) are annoyed that she's sucking up all the oxygen. Dick Morris said as much on O'Reilly recently. Honestly I could give a sh*t less about charisma. That's not a qualification I look for when deciding a presidential candidate.

As far as 'my gal' blowing up, most news outlets aren't even reporting on her or this story. The only people who even know (or care) about it are political junkies. I'm sure the average joe out there could give a sh*t less what some aide said about Sarah Palin.

Not Mitt, not Newt, not Santorum. Maybe they can work their way on to the ticket. ..but I want OUR voices in there. Michelle and Herman Cain would suit me just fine.

To be clear, I am only addressing those candidates who have declared.

Michele in a pic with Romney proves nothing. You can post it a trillion times...it still proves nothing.

She’s mistaken for hiring Rollins. It’s almost a sick joke it’s so mistaken. However, there are no facts in evidence to tie this to your belief that she does this to become Romney’s vp. There’s plenty, plenty of common sense reasoning against it.

If the goal is to hurt Sarah to Romney’s advantage...the exact opposite is what happens. This hurts Michele, not Sarah. So it helps Romney in what way, that Rollins targets Sarah on behalf of Michele, which succeeds only - and completely predictably - in bolstering Sarah? Even people who don’t support Sarah but support someone else, are offended by this.

From an issues standpoint it makes zero sense. Romney endorses global warning, Romneycare etc. These are what Michele fights against in Congress. She is tea party to the core. Romney is anti tea party to the core. She knows that, because it is impossible not to know that.

This is so boneheaded...if Michele allows this to stand, then I will say she is politically ignorant and tone deaf. She survives in her district but knows nothing at all - and is loaded with misconceptions - about a national race.

Rollins statement was “Sexist and condescending...””nothing about Mrs. Bachmann’s legislative accomplishments.”

Precisely. If Bachmann doesn’t recognize this type of support isn’t going to give her the following she deserves, and immediately fires him, then she will loose the primary.
I like her, but his tactic is diminishing my support for her campaign. He is a liability. Dump him, Michelle.

The fact MB has NOT refuted Rollins’ comments speaks volumes of her intentions. And we are now in the second day.

MB remains the official stalking horse for myth romney and she has sold her soul to be his VP nominee to capture the conservative vote.

The repeat of JuanMcCain/Palin - RINO+Conservative.

And we know how THAT turned out - this would be worse with a full bore liberal as GOP nominee.

Lets see what kind of political genius Rollins is:

http://minnesotaindependent.com/59781/bachmanns-christian-counseling-clinic-receives-state-funds

This kind of stuff is all over the internet. Her husband’s business is taxpayer supported. And evidently, those funds are used to “talk” people out of homosexuality.

Regardless of the topic at hand, does anyone honestly believe that this is a good issue for MB? Remember, this is someone who is willing to pander for ethanol subsidies but to remove all kinds of entitlements for everyone else.

What a dope.

Rollins is the little dweeb on the playground playing "she said-she said" and trying to get a fight started between these two.

So far, I haven't heard a word about it from Palin, so the riff is all in Bachmann's camp.

Bachmann has hitched herself to a deal-killer with Rollins and he is going to erode any good feelings people have had about her.

She would be well advised to dump Rollins right away lest she is labeled a RINO wannabe and blows her whole ride.

I haven't heard Bachmann come out and say she doesn't agree w/Rollins. Her main problem now is her base, who largly support Palin. She sure isn't winning them over by hiring this guy and attacking one of her most ardent supoorters!

i really do think Romney has promised her the veep slot, he wants that elusive conservative vote, and MB might be thinking she'll have more say as veep on policy so as to justify teaming up w/the slimeball.

I think Bachmann will be forced to do something now. MSNBC is reporting on it now that it’s made the front page of Politico (they get all their news from Politico). As far as not a word from Palin why would she say anything. It’s in her interest to stay mum and if it does spiral out of control let Bachmann hang herself.

No.

The fact she hasn’t refuted it only proves that politically she doesn’t know what she’s doing. It’s just politically stupid.

Again, you can repeat ten trillion times that she is a stalking horse trying to become Romney’s vp, and you can post a picture 100 trillion times and your posts prove nothing at all about your belief that she does this for Romney.

It’s brain dead stuff.

My post to you thinks it through and makes the case that she isn’t doing it for Romney. It doesn’t help her or Romney for Rollins to ham-handedly attack Sarah. It hurts Michele badly. People sympathize with Sarah. A child could figure that one out. Further, Michele despises everything RINO Romney stands for in terms of Global Warming, Romneycare, etc. She is tea party and he is the anti tea party.

But I repeat myself.

Therefore, I won’t bother again to repeat the obvious to someone who posts made up stuff and brain dead stuff and thinks if he posts it enough it will become true.
