Defiant Morning Joe Defends Burying Weiner-gate
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 06/08/2011 5:20:08 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Yesterday, this column jibed Joe Scarborough & Co. for blacking out, during Morning Joe's first half-hour, coverage of Anthony Weiner's epic news conference of the day before.

Today, a defiant Scarborough dismissed the criticism the show received, boasting "we'll talk about what we feel like talking about."

When the show opened today, it at first seemed that Scarborough was about to make amends for yesterday's poor news judgment. But Joe's mock contrition was just a set-up for a joke.

There's probably a lot of truth to that. I'm always suspicious when former members of Congress like Scarborough steer clear of a sordid story involving a sitting Congressman.

I wonder what kind of skeletons Scarborough has in his closet from his days in D.C.?

How many women were you fooling around with while you were in office Joe?

You are going to great lengths to pretend that extramarital involvements just aren’t newsworthy. That’s a pretty bizarre stance, and so we have to ask why pushing such an agenda is important to you.

I’ve wondered if people who minimize scandals like this don’t do it because they have skeletons in the closet they fear getting out and don’t want to seem like hypocrites if and when they ever do.

So after watching this video, I take it when he had his old show called Scarborough Country, (where during the intro it showed him as this Pro Reagan conservative) that it was a phony ruse into thinking he was conservative. Watching him here you’d have no doubt he and Rachael Maddow or Olbermann were best of friends.

I’d go so far as to say he is the Jim Jeffords or Arlen Spector of talk show television. To me you don’t switch from a conservative to a liberal, as that would mean you were never a conservative to begin with. Also who is that stupid to do so? Clearly it is not money as he is still with that sinking ship of a network PMSNBC

MSNBC's resident "conservative" to former President Bill Clinton 9/23/2010:

"Because sitting here listening to you talk – I know there are a lot of people that are opinion leaders and shapers that watch this show, that are just sitting there thinking "Why can't he run for President in a couple of years?"... I was just going to say, does it make sense – because listening to you talk right now, you've always been known as the brightest, the first-class, however you want to put it – but you've had the ability the past decade to go all around the world, start this initiative, understand issues – you've understood issues better than anyone in Washington, when you were President."

Hope you saved your blue dress, Joe.

Joe Scarborough and a few other congressmen suddenly abandoned their bids for re-election during the summer that Chandra Levy was killed and suspicion fell on Representative Gary Condit - 2001.

I believe that many congressmen were feeling the heat of their behavior in DC becoming public. And I believe that Joe Scarborough was at the top of this list.

Nothing was ever published about his behavior while away from his family, but we did not have twitter ten years ago.

His support, by omission, of his contemporary congressman, Arnold Weiner, probably relates to what was going on in DC ten years ago.

I saw liberals/progressives on MSNBC say that they want Weiner (great name to have for this scandle LOL) out because he is blocking their #1 campaign issue from being talked about: the Ryan medicare plan. Weiner is sucking up all the media attention and Democrats cant get their Ryan wants to kill seniors to pay for tax cuts on the rich 2012 message out.

Liberals/progressives say that they want Weiner OUT b/c his sexcapades are blocking their #1 campaign issue---Ryan wanting to "kill" seniors.

You can bet Ohaha is getting nervous----his reelection chances are already practically nil. Having Weiner as the lead story endangers him and Democrats.

In fact, I believe Weiner's staying put as a strategy----knowing they'll buy him out.

Remember how Rahm got the gate AND the mayoralty of Chicago? You can bet Weiner won't go until he gets enough money to makeup for the earmarks he's been pilfering.

Watch Weiner score several high paying sinecures---maybe a cable talk show, a makework, no-show job at a NY govt agency, a tax-exempt "foundation to help" victims of sex crimes (funded with Soros money).

Yes, that dead body (of a young lady) in Scarborough's Florida district congressional office, back when Joe was in Congress, still remains a mystery to this day. That's one good reason for Scarborough not to talk about Weiner. Another might be that he works for leftist MSNBC and doesn't want to risk his job.

The news/entertainment business is perhaps the only industry where one can easily get away with having lower moral standards than either politicians or even trial lawyers. Would it surprise anyone if Weiner wound up on MSNBC?

I don’t know about his internet habits, but after he got fired from WABC, Don Imus (who came on before him) let loose on Scarborough saying that he had half a million complaints against him in Human Resources. Imus didn’t elaborate but I was pretty intrigued. New York City has been very bad for creepy Joe.

Of course Joe’s going to “bury” the story about poor deflated Weiner. All of Weiner’s mistresses are at least still alive. When Joe was a “member in good standing” of Congress, his intern was found dead in his office, and luckily his media buddies “buried” that story for him too.
