Millions of us TEA Party Republicans, along with Independents didn’t go to the polls in November 2010 to vote for moderates. Republicans benefitted from the TEA Party and they will be fortunate to benefit again, provided the ticket is conservative.

We need to finish election 2010’s work in 2012 and that means electing Tea Party acceptable conservatives.

Can you name a popular moderate Republican who would *unite* the party, appease losing side, as you call it, and bring votes to the ticket?

Personally, were Sarah Palin to win the nomination, (on this very day) I would hope that she would choose Representative West; rock solid conservative who would wipe the floor with Biden in the VP debate(s)!

You were actually right the first time - lots of pubbies around up here, but not a lot of red meat conservatives.

The word Moderate as used today is an Orwellian term that politicians use to project themselves as ‘reasonable’ and ‘objective’.

The Tea Party as a movement is encouraging. Simply for the fact that it is a true grassroots movement. It tells me that many people are dissatisfied with business as usual.

Rudy doesn’t have a chance. The real heroes of 9-11 will swift boat him and conservatives will not let his crimes and leftist policies go unexposed.

Anybody who believes that character matters in selecting our leaders cannot support Rudy.

I can't do it. I can only speak for myself.

To my understanding, roughly half of eligible voters do not vote.

I would not dismiss this a laziness. I would suggest the reason behind this is more of a disenchantment with the political process. Who can blame them?

I wouldn’t disagree with your conclusion.

I have thought about the non-voting issue and have come to a conclusion. When you have a group like the left, which consistently forces its agenda upon people, eventually there will be a critical mass. I believe that most people want to be left in peace, to decide for themselves how much salt they want on their steak, to have a barbeque without being regarded as some 'eco-terrorist.'

The problem with the left is that they are incapable of recognizing individual liberties.

I’m not sure that’s the case any more. Look at the number of people even on FR who are willing to be sexually molested for the illusion of safety on airplanes. Look at the number of people who support seatbelt laws.

I think most Americans no longer value freedom over the illusion of safety.

Many do not. Certainly a valid point.

However, I am hard pressed to think of a tyrannical government that stands up to the test of time.

They have their season, but it seems to me that ultimately the illusion cannot be maintained. It falls.
