Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) is hopeful that his bill to create a National Infrastructure Bank will move through the Senate this year.

The bill could be the best shot for those seeking to boost transportation, energy and water infrastructure investment in a Congress focused on “rapacious” spending cuts, Kerry said.

The Kerry bill, co-sponsored by Sens. Mark Warner (D-Va.), Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), would create an independent, nonprofit bank that would leverage private investment into infrastructure projects. The bill was introduced in March.

“House is DOA. Sorry Leslie”

I hope so. This sounds like an end-around in trying to get private highways built - and I have a HUGE problem with that.

Thanks for the ping.

Not to worry. This worthless POS will die a quick death if/when it gets to the House.

I hope it’s DOA but if Pelosi is swept back to power in 2012 this and worse will be back in play.

"an independent, nonprofit bank that would leverage private investment into infrastructure projects."

Oh, yeah! Investors will trust that for sure during the global catastrophes ahead: monstrous inflation, business and government closing doors, trade wars, currency wars, world wars, nuclear exchanges, natural cataclysms, the even in my tag line,... ;-)

The reason for the proposed bank is that politicians know how to shake down highway contractors for cash, and the stimulus highway slush fund is all mostly spent now... no new stimulus in sight.

I like it, if it give interest free loans to right to work States only. Not necessary to create a new bank unless it will apply to everyone just use local banks like credit unions to administer the programs. Infrastructure is important as long as corruption is held to a minimum. Construction work filters through the marketplace.

Unless you people have a better idea, this sounds like the CCC or other alphabet soup depression era remedies to keep people working and eating.
