President Obama’s pick to replace Gary F. Locke as commerce secretary faces an uphill Senate confirmation battle. Even before the White House handed in the name of John Bryson for the job, Senate Republicans had vowed to block any nominee over administration foot-dragging on free-trade agreements. The selection of this particular leftist for a business-outreach post is rallying the opposition. “I find Mr Bryson unacceptable as secretary of commerce for the United States, and I will work in opposition to his conformation,” said Sen. John Barrasso, vice chairman of the Republican Conference, to The Washington Times.
Mr. Bryson co-founded the Natural Resources Defense Council, a radical outfit that relies on lawsuits and activist courts to advance an anti-industrial agenda. Mr. Bryson even used his time as chairman and CEO of Edison International to advocate government coercion to address so-called “global warming.” A member of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory Group on Energy and Climate Change, Mr. Bryson told a conference in 2009 that it’s “incredibly important” that the United States “comes forth in this year with federal climate change legislation.”
Nominating an advocate for schemes that massively raise prices for struggling consumers and small businesses makes little sense in this economy. “It’s just wrong to put somebody in charge of the Commerce Department who called the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill ‘moderate but acceptable’ and said that cap-and-trade was a good way to hide a carbon tax,” Mr. Barrasso told The Washington Times. “We need a pro-growth business leader who can make American businesses more innovative at home and more competitive abroad.”

Race relations have undergone a curious flip-flop. Polls show blacks feel more optimistic about the nation’s future than whites, despite the Great Recession that’s giving everybody the blues.
Having a black, or, if you prefer, biracial, president explains a lot of that optimism, polls show. But white Americans, particularly working-class whites without a college diploma, have become more gloomy.
Ronald Brownstein, political director and demographic specialist at the National Journal, recently described whites who have less than a four-year college degree as “the most pessimistic and alienated group in American society.”
He cited a March poll by the Pew Charitable Trusts’ Economic Mobility Project in which two-thirds of blacks and Hispanics said they expected to be better off economically in 10 years. So did 55 percent of college-educated whites. But only 44 percent of non-college whites agreed.

Under ‘normal’ circumstances I would say “This isn’t the one you have to worry about. What does #2 and/or #3 look like?”.
But with this narcissistic fool firmly entrenched in our wallet and lives, he is probably going with his #1 and only.
IMNSHO, the best thing to do with MOST everything BO proposes, is tie it up in legislation and red tape.
Go back to the ‘original’ form of filibuster - not this PW version of switching off, stay up there for hours, days on end.
Take a page from the “D” playbook, make sure there is a designated “R” (really prefer Conservatives take this one) ‘in the building’, with lights on, to derail any shenanigans while Congress (Senate) is ‘not in session’.
Like it was once said “Politics ain’t Beanbags”, the man/person ‘across the aisle’ may be an associate, but politically he is NOT YOUR FRIEND.
If Obama is just a moderate, slightly to the left-of-center pol, why does he keep nominating real far left wackos to important posts?
