WARNING: Your PayPal Account is at Risk! (PayPal closing seller accounts for dubious reasons)

If you sell or promote products online and you accept payments through PayPal, I encourage you to read this entire post. I have personally processed over $1,000,000 in sales through PayPal in the last few years. PayPal recently froze my account... They canceled well over $20,000 in recurring subscriptions. You know what their reason was? They said my site was a work-at-home business opportunity site and that it violated their terms of service! Yesterday, my friend Spencer (one of THE top sellers in the WSO forum) got his account shut down too. He sells Word Press plugins. I started talking to other Warriors and discovered that dozens of people have been shut down in the last few weeks.

Very recently, PayPal has been shutting down sellers that bring in big bucks. They confiscate earnings for some time. Then they harvest your customer's emails from your account to contact your customers.

I snipped a lot of text out of that excerpt, by the way. My “snip” indicators all vanished.

I will not use Paypal. I heard too much about them. I opened an account in 2000, used it once, did my homework on them, and never used it again.

“But here’s the IRONY: PayPal allows ClickBank to sell some of the WORST business opportunity products on the planet and they have the highest refund rates!”

Maybe that’s your answer, right there.

Too many people get ripped off by “get rich quick” internet schemes and PayPal has to keep issuing refunds.

I’m sure that annoys them, no end.

This site! => FanPageTrafficSystem.com

I told them that it’s an application that builds iFrame Pages on Facebook. “It’s just SOFTWARE!” But they wouldn’t listen…They froze my account and refused to take my calls.”

That’s the trouble with these online services. They hold your information hostage and there is nothing you can do about any information you give them.

For the life of me, I don’t understand why working from home is some massively blasphemous thing to them. It’s not like you’re embezzling money at all I’m sure. I know about all those scams and suchlike, but it’s not like yours is one of them.

Has Paypal defined WAHBO? There are a number of private business concerns that do offer “business opportunities” for people to carry on “work at home” — which in turn often has a pyramidesque component for evangelizing the opportunities to others. If customized Facebook software counts, could it be because said software also self-advertises “if you would like to use this software too, please click”? It might be the pyramidesque element that Paypal is shying away from.

I feel your pain!

Had the same thing happen to me about 5 years ago.

Was selling online audio books (on Ebay) and all of a sudden (and without any notice or complaints) had my account frozen.

Compared to you (and others) I was lucky.

Those THIEVING BASTURDS (sic) only got me for about $1,200.

After dozens of emails, certified letters and phone calls (never did talk to a human) I gave up as the costs of litigation would have outweighed any remuneration I might have gained by suing.

Sadly, I learned after the fact, that they had been defendants (and loss) in a major class action and this had been SOP for some time and many others had also been ripped off.

Still occasionally buy things on Ebay--and have never any problems when making purchases--but you would never catch me again so much as selling a pencil.

I use PayPal a lot when shopping online but I’m not a business or a seller. Since Ebay bought PayPal things have changed some. Ebay is probably behind most of it because they have to return money to disgruntled buyers on the Ebay site. When I do sell something on Ebay and the money is put in my PayPal account I transfer it as soon as possible. I don’t let it stay in PayPal.

Thank goodness for that site, because I could spend a whole day writing about the shortcomings of Paypal and hardly scratch the surface.

Ebay and its affiliate Paypal have deep pockets, but one day I hope to see Paypal out of business at the very least.

In the meantime, I strongly recommend that you all avoid Paypal. Your money is not safe, and your personal information is not safe.

And if you’ve “never had a problem,” that’s a poor reason to support a company which has caused serious problems for so many people who trusted it. Moreover, there is a real good chance that you WILL have a problem with them when they get around to you.

As for ebay — don’t sell there and don’t use Paypal if you shop there. As a buyer you are permitted to ask the seller if they’ll accept other forms of payment.

If you want to sell, have a look at bonanza.com.

Anytime I encounter an online seller that only accepts PayPal, I look elsewhere. I’ve never liked PayPal or the horse [rest of that omitted] it rode in on.

Anyone give a crap about this?

This is OLD NEWS!

Back in 2003 they did this to me. Been selling on feebay for years. Buddy asked me to sell some farm equipment. So I went out, got photos, wrote up the listings and off to the races we went.

Items sold for just north of 50,000 bucks. Most under 3K many paid with paypal on smaller things. Anything over 3K was to be paid in person with cashiers check (in the listing) most ignored it and paypaled so they could put it on their credit cards.

Anyways. In one day over 30,000 dollars was deposited in my paypal account. I hit the transfer to checking account button and the next day paypal canceled the transfer and locked the account.

Only 2 items had been picked up at that point and we sure as heck where not releasing the rest with paypal holding the money hostage.

1 year later we FINELY got paypal to let go of the 10,000 they where holding for the two items that had been picked up. The rest requested refunds at our direction. Some of those paid by other means. The rest just said the hell with it.

I still sell on ebay. but I REFUSE to use paypal in any manor.

Good to know that Paypal is on the lookout of MLMs and other scams.

I feel better now when I see their name on a store website.

Same here. I use Z Money or Web Money from Europe when someone uses my Fileserve and Filesonic accounts. The last time I complained to Paypal about a buyer account, instead of replying to me professionally then sent me the entire user agreement in pdf form...to read again. F*** Paypal.

Plus, a close bud of mine told me they squealed on the IRS on some of his accounts on how much he really made.

I use Z Money or any web money operations from Europe and they’re OK. It’s just the name branding of Paypal but there are other alternatives there that I use. Unfortunately, the other party in a transaction is too lazy to use them so it’s Paypal to some degree.

Paypal is the de facto merchant service on Ebay so how do you receive your funds and pay for the fees?

Sorry for the implication. I guess it depends on how much money you’ve got handy to toss away needlessly. For a lot of people with cash to play with...it’s their choice.

Short of that list, you are forced to use paypal.
