NRA President shilling for gun banner Romney
AIPNews.com ^ | June 13, 2011 | Tom Hoefling

Posted on 06/13/2011 11:52:36 AM PDT by EternalVigilance

National Rifle Association President David Keene is predicting a Mitt Romney victory in the 2012 Republican presidential nominating process , and working to burnish the credentials of the liberal former Governor of Massachusetts.

Here's the problem:

As Governor, Mitt Romney banned guns.

From July, 2004:

Governor Mitt Romney has signed into law a permanent assault weapons ban that he says will make it harder for criminals to get their hands on these guns.

"Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts," Romney said, at a bill signing ceremony on July 1 with legislators, sportsmen's groups and gun safety advocates. "These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people."

Like the federal assault weapons ban, the state ban, put in place in 1998, was scheduled to expire in September. The new law ensures these deadly weapons, including AK-47s, UZIs and Mac-10 rifles, are permanently prohibited in Massachusetts no matter what happens on the federal level.

http://www.iberkshires.com/story.php?story_id=14812

I'm thinking that perhaps NRA members, and anyone else who cares about the protection of our Right to Keep and Bear Arms, might want to ask Mr. Keene how much money he and/or the organizations he represents have received from Mr. Romney and his closest allies.

Because, the way I see it, such considerations are the only thing that can explain why the head of the nation's largest gun organization would be shilling for someone who banned exactly the sort of weapons that in 1775 the British went to Lexington and Concord to seize.

Yep, if the National Republican “leaders” try to force NittWitt Mitt on us, it will be the END of the Republican Party.

I do not want a 3rd party to run. It probably would insure that Obozo is re-elected.

BUT, I WILL NOT VOTE FOR MITT!

NRA lost me when they endorsed Reid. This is topping on the cake.

However, I wouldn’t vote for Romney if he promised an AR with lifetime free ammo to every registered republican.

Romney and none of his 5 sons served in the military. Assault rifles aren’t something they remember from days defending the nation. According to the DOD, Utah’s rate of enjoyment is only higher than DC, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.

Screw that gun banner and any NRA that supports him.

In the waning days of the 2008 campaign when it looked like the late porker John Murtha might be beaten by a real American patriot, the NRA pumped hundreds of dollars into radio ads to support Murtha. It was then and there that I resolved they would never get another dime from me. I joined Gun Owners of America instead. They do what the NRA once did.

Like his “brainwashed” daddy before him, Mittens is a corporate whore and lusts for power at any price and Mittens in his own right has proven again and again that he is an enemy of social conservatism and a serial liar on the subject. No wonder that the lamestream press and David Keene regard him as the frontrunner for the GOP nomination.

David Keene, and his buddy Grover Norquist, are clearly the "enemy within". From CPAC, ACU and now the NRA, these two are nefariously attempting to hi-jack the GOP platform to appeal to homosexuals, islamists and illegals. These are contrary to and incompatible with conservatism.

No surprise that Willard is their man. H*ll NO to Romney, and Keene/Norquist.

Just like the NAA(L)CP became race hustlers and the AARP age hustlers, the NRA has become gun hustlers.

All three organizations make things worse for their particular causes by endorsing politicians or laws detrimental to them.

The NAA(L)CP goes Democrat so that African Americans will always be trapped on the unproductive entitlement plantation of victim-hood and thus dependent on them to keep the hand outs coming.
The AARP went with Obamacare so that when it's policies put granny before the death panels she will go to them in desperation for “extra” insurance.
By purchasing Reid and now Romney the NRA expect even more “protection money” from members to keep them away from the 2nd Amendment.
Never let a crisis go to waste and if there are none make some—all three institutions have been totally subverted by the Left.

Apparently the NRA no longer supports conservative politicians. Because I’m not a gun owner (but fully support the Second Amendment) I can’t be sure but judging from it’s backing of Harry Reid and Mitt Romney, the NRA doesn’t appear to care much about the folks (gun owners) it purports to represent. If that is the case, why does the NRA even exist - and why do gun owners bother to pay good money ($35. annually) to join the NRA?

"NRA lost me when they endorsed Reid."

They must have never had you. They never endorsed Reid, ever. In the last election, they did make me mad because Reid had a B rating and Sharon Angle had an A rating and they decided not to endorse either of them. I still have my October Issue of America's First Freedom with the ratings/endorsements.

I'm guessing you're not a member of the NRA, never read who they endorsed/did not endorse last year and are speaking out of ignorance. Educate yourself before making false statements and bashing the NRA.

"but judging from it’s backing of Harry Reid and Mitt Romney"

Read my post 31 to Gator113 for the first assertion. As for the second one, the VP of the NRA talking about Mitt Romney does not automatically extend to the whole NRA. Don't cast aspersions on the NRA for one statemet by a VP. I'm not going to cast aspersions on FreeRepublic or think badly of them because a few freepers may be idiots, right? You should follow the same logic with the NRA.

You are right about his family, Romney has hundreds of millions, and has never bought a gun, and his family shuns military service and has, since they came to America in the 1840s to serve Joseph Smith.

Sorry, he was just elected at the end of April/begnning of May at the convention. Schmeits used to be the President. Shoot me, I'm a little behind. The point still stands, support of Romney is not any official position of the NRA that I have ever read yet. When I see all of the NRA people lining up behind Mitt then I'll castigate them for this. Until then, I'll keep my powder dry and won't spout off over one statement by an NRA official.

Being a retired Marine, I don’t have any problem with Mitt and his boys never serving in the military in a free society. I fought for their right to do that. The second amendment isn’t about the military anyways. There are plenty of strong supporters of the 2nd amendment who never served in the military. My beef with Mitt is not that he didn’t serve but that he’s a gun grabber.

The NRA is more concerned with keeping the gun rights issue alive and not ending it. It is about the money and keeping up with the Beltway crowd more than actually winning the gun rights issue.

The NRA activly attacked the Heller case in DC by attempting to discredit the Heller lawyers, with holding support and on several occasions the NRA Staff lawyers openly made statements the Heller case was “legally and judicially flawed”. The best part is the NRA filed an Ammicus Brief after the allowed time for submittal. Only after the case was “won” with out any active NRA support, the NRA co-opted the win. Just like any good Democrat instituion..... Look at Social Security..... The Demoncrats claim the Republicans are “stealing” it, when in fact history points to the Demoncrats are the real theifs.... So Saul Alinsky... just like the NRA when it comes to gun rights.

The NRA has done more for our second amendment rights than any other gun rights organization out there. No politican shakes in their boots because of their GOA rating. However, they fight tooth and nail (including Harry Reid) for their NRA rating. That tells you something of their power right there. McDonald happened because of the NRA. The 1986 gun bill happened because of the NRA and they were a prime force behind the Heller case also. While the GOA issues press releases nipping at the NRA’s heels like a toy poodle. The NRA fights for our freedoms.

Well, this is America. Everyone is allowed to have their own distorted version of the truth. I know this, without the NRA we would have lost most of our 2nd amendment freedoms long ago. The GOA would have issued a press release condemning it.
