The black beret should not be part of the dress uniform either. The black beret in the past was for Ranger units. It was earned. Shinseki’a bright idea was an insult to the Rangers. What was to be next, ribbons given out like Skittles? (oops, forgot, one insult to the Navy who got a Purple Heart for getting a splinter while spending Christmas in Cambodia).

And now Shinseki runs the VA, which in its infinite wisdom, is going to allow transgendered vets get hormone therapy and mental health care. Meanwhile, our combat vets that need mental health care are getting the shaft.

The black beret was actually worn by Armored Cavalry units before the Rangers adopted it.
In Brit Commonwealth armies is is also used by those who ride in heavy off-road vehicles. It was the orginal black beret (from 1918)
