DIY Weapons of the Libyan Rebels (34 photos)
The Atlantic ^ | 6/14/11

For the past four months in Libya, rebel forces made up of civilians and army defectors have been waging battles against Muammar Qaddafi's armed forces, holding their own and sometimes advancing with the assistance of NATO air strikes. Scrambling to arm themselves against mercenaries and a professional army, rebels have been making use of everything they can -- from using captured weapons and munitions to rigging anti-aircraft guns and aircraft rocket launchers to the backs of civilian pickup trucks. Collected here are recent images of some of this weaponry used by the Libyan rebels.

Not to be funny, but some of the retired men in our family and some of our friends have unbelievably well-put together garages and work benches. They could probably get a lot better results than these folks are getting.

My husband even has a few friends with those machines that manufacture parts from plans. I think they are called 3D fabricators.

Lathes, all sorts of wood and metal working equipment, not to mention that a few actually do their own reloading, so they have those pieces of equipment, too.

None of it is used for anything they shouldn’t, unless spending more on the latest piece of equipment than they’ve told their wives counts as “shouldn’t”.

This article is what everyone who says the US needs to disarm should look at. Because simply disarming doesn’t do much for long, as these people prove.

I went to Wikipedia and I believe you are correct. It does appear to be a F2000. And visually in good shape compared to most of the rusted out crap in the other pictures.

I wonder if it came off a “NATO” trooper?

I watched Battle: Los Angeles for the first time last night.

Being an accomplished fabricator, welder, mechanic and machinist I can visualized quite a few types of weapon from giant air tanks that can lob projectiles (chunkin pumpkins) to high pressure actuators that can fire several hundred arrows at once.

Or even homemade compressed air/water rockets.

And you know I would probably tinker around with a bunch of my junk for a “just in case” scenario should things go really south in a hurry such should an unlikely event such as an ET invasion were to happen.

Sometimes low tech may be the solution.

At the bottom of the Wikipedia entry for the F2000 under Users it says:

"Libya: Purchased 367 F2000 rifles along with other assorted lethal and non-lethal systems from FN Herstal in 2008, with deliveries commencing in 2009.[17] The export of the weapons was initially blocked over concerns of proliferation into other volatile regions.[18]"

Disarm Americans, and the guy that was satisfied with owning a bolt action rifle and a six shot single action revolver, suddenly becomes a guy that wants a full auto rifle and a 15 round pistol.

Back in the late 70’s I worked with a guy that had been sent in to teach the mountain tribes in Vietnam how to make improvised weapons and explosives.

Instead of him teaching them how to make improvised weapons, they taught him. They would simply upgrade weapons that had been used for hundreds of years.

He even brought back a recipe for a really nasty explosive that could be made from a certain type of laundry soap.

I remember seeing that Missle-Pod-on-a-Pickup configuration in Mogadishu back in 1986. These al Qaeda types are very resourceful.
