The Lucrative Business Of Running For President (Newt flameout continues)
ABC News ^ | June 15, 2011 | BRIAN ROSS, MATTHEW MOSK and ANGELA M. HILL

...

This week Gingrich also released his 24th book, with many of his upcoming campaign stops doubling as marketing events for his book and movies, raising more questions about the true intentions of the campaign.

"If he's being driven by book sales, and movie openings and things like that, that doesn't fit into a traditional campaign," said Reed.

Also raising questions from independent watchdog groups is the operation of a charity Gingrich founded, called Renewing American Leadership.

Its website contained ads for Gingrich's books -- taken down after ABC News asked about them -- and posted his positions on political hot-button issues.

"It's not clear that it is a charity," said Ellen Miller, executive director of the non-partisan good government group The Sunlight Foundation. "We have an organization that looks like he's mixing public purpose and his own private political purpose."

The charity's fundraising letters, on Gingrich's letterhead, attack President Obama and also promote Gingrich's book.

In fact, records show the charity bought Gingrich's books to give to those who send in donations.

...

A recent audit discovered that the charity paid one of Gingrich's for-profit companies more than $200,000, which the charity says was used to pay his then-press secretary Rick Tyler, who was also the director of the charity -- until March -- and made the decision to buy the Gingrich books with charity funds.

He is an embarrassment. The only good news is that he will NEVER be President of the United States. Three marriages and thinks he can win......lololololol.

There was a time, briefly, back in the 90’s, when I thought Newt was a rockstar. Then they caved on the budget showdown, and the rest is history.

“He is an embarrassment. The only good news is that he will NEVER be President of the United States. Three marriages and thinks he can win......lololololol.”

The point of the article is that he might not even be interested in running for Prez - it’s a Trump-like publicity stunt.

Just another self-promoting hack among many.

Newt is for Newt, Inc.

The fact that his entire campaign staff quit on him and he’s still running says all. He’s not in it to be President, he’s in it to maintain “His Brand”.

“Newt is for Newt, Inc.”

Exactly. I think what a lot of us Freepers here fail to fully realize is the extent to which most of these people in DC - Democrats and Republicans — are in it for themselves. Enhance their brand, then ka-ching. To heck with the long-term problems their policy decisions have left the rest of us with.

These people are not “public servants.” They don’t work for the country. They work for themselves. Screw the country.

It isn't just three marriages - it is that he is a serial cheater and liar who likes to get “Lewinskied” in his car.

Current wife was his former parkinglot playgirl when he was married to wife #2.

If history is any guide he already has a mistress who blows him every time Callista takes her eyes off him (maybe why her eyes are so wide?).

Heres my answer on another thread from a week ago about Newts challenge to become POTUS.....

>” The challenge is to get some of that “free money” and try to stay relevant so he can get some more from the trough later...
Lets get real...lol...He doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of ever being president...He knows it...We know it...so whats his motive again?? “<
It's as relevant today as it was then....Newt has made a “business” out of politics...one of the few business models that is always shovel ready

He's a narcissitic dirtbag with no chance of winning anything but more money.

Not that I'm against him making money. If people want to buy his books, fine.

But for him to be taking up space in the debates is disgusting.

Newt using this campaign (and the debate stage) to drive business to his corporate products is like bloggers coming into FR and posting excerpts to drive traffic to their sites.

The funny part about that is he could have easily been the winner of the debate the other night if he weren't Newt. He destroyed John King on asking loaded questions and bailed out Cain on Muslim's in the cabinet.

I think that’s true to a degree, but I think you can do both. Sarah Palin is doing a lot of good for herself, and the country, by what she’s doing. And I think that’s actually quintessentially American. Newt won’t win the nomination, but he added some good “in your face” moments to the debate the other night against the media and the Obama administration. If he makes a dollar while he does that, I’m not overly exercised about that.

It’s true. He’s got a quick wit and a keen mind. But he’s so tainted, and so distorted, and so in love with himself that he can do monumentally stupid things like sit on the couch with Nancy and call for an end to “global warming”, or call Paul Ryan’s plan “right wing social engineering”.

He’s like a clever wise-ass in school. Clever. But a wise-ass. No direction. No goals. Just out for himself.

Funny how ABC is going after a candidate we already despise, and whose candidacy is doomed. Are they just getting practice for 2012?

How stupid is Sean Hannity? We were already talking about this yesterday, and Hannity STILL had this douchebag on for 20 minutes to pimp his useless book.

I happen to agree that he is not interested in being President. I think he ran to bring his ideas and policies to the national debate instead the few website members which is his current audience. The article is more cynical that he is just trying to move more books. Maybe the truth is somewhere in between...

He just stunk up Greta’s show too. What a dork. He’s in high dudgeon over the treatment of his consort, Princess Calista.
