Part of me thinks that he's setting himself up so that when he loses the election, he can say, "That's okay, I was tired of the job anyway."

For once, Dumb0 and I agree.
This is a lead up to his pulling an LBJ and not running. The DNC don’t want him to do a Jimmah Carter and kill the Dems for another 30 years. They want him out.
Plus, how do you pull in $$$ donors when you are basically telling them you don’t care if you win or lose?
