The Department of Homeland Security has sent out an internal alert warning that jihadist websites last week posted a "hit list" of American executives, officials and companies -- an alarming development that could mark the start of a new phase in terror plots.
The list, which covers dozens of names connected to the Iraq war, including executives at Halliburton and KBR, was compiled by users who vowed to "send explosive mail" to the "best target." The lists were published online around the same time American-born Al Qaeda spokesman Adam Gadahn released a video in which he called on Muslims in the U.S. to kill Americans.
Security analysts believe the two messages are related and underscore a shift in terror strategy -- from top-down, mass-casualty events to smaller-scale attacks taken up, in some cases, by freelancing, lone-wolf jihadists.
The DHS bulletin, obtained by FoxNews.com, described how posts on the Arabic-language Ansar al-Mujahideen forum discussed "specific targets" for potential attack. The discussion originated on a more secure Al Qaeda-linked site known as the Shumukh forum.
Reached for comment, DHS spokesman Chris Ortman said in an email that there is no evidence of an imminent attack, but he confirmed DHS is monitoring.
"While we have no information of any imminent terrorist threat to the United States or any U.S. persons, as always, we urge federal, state and local law enforcement, as well as the general public, to maintain increased vigilance for indications of preoperational or suspicious activity," Ortman said.
He confirmed that the list of names and companies "that the user believed were legitimate targets" prompted the initial "Open Source Information Report" from DHS' intelligence office last week. Ortman said the threats were also cited in a June 9 DHS-FBI "intelligence note" that went out to "federal, state, local, tribal and private sector...

Let’s see, a list that any kid could compile from an encyclopedia, and it gets Uncle Sam running around in yet another Chinese fire drill.
I fear the terrorists are winning without detonating a bomb or firing a shot.
Since these people almost exclusively fly private jets, does that mean that TSA will now be making naked scans of them and their families and groping their genitals before they can fly? After all, unlike the rest of us, they have been specifically named by the terrorists. So shouldn't they be specifically checked now?
Isn't DHS looking at Christians , do they have a hit list?
I’m a war vet, a Christian, I have a bible, I’m a conservative that hates Obama and his dems, I fly a yellow flag, I have guns I will refuse to surrender, I drive a gas guzzling pickup, and I suport the constitution.
I’m toast.
Correction: DHS has sent out a list of suggested targets, based on the kinds of people liberals hate and would like to see targeted.
—Is this an Al Qaida hit list or DNC..? I'm confused.
Do not watch the hand behind the back.
Both of my brothers are war vets, and one of them is an NBC watching, Obama loving liberal. It's actually frightening he doesn't comprehend what democrats have attempted to do to our military.
You have my sympathy. My mother-in-law is the same way. She turned lib after her very conservative husband passed away... a real shame.
Strange Bedfellows - Al Qaeda and Obummer have the same list
This is interesting because I think it reflects the Leftization of the jihadist movement, apparently under the influence of Adam Gadahn and other younger Westernized al Qaeda members. Their point of view is essentially that of Michael Moore and his infamous 9/11 complaint that terror shouldn't be directed at people in blue cities and states. Gadahn clearly agrees with this and wants to implement it.
I see your point. I wonder if he realizes the worst possible outcome for Islam would be to pick a fight with Mississippi?
