Gingrich demands apology from NBC for report on wife
The Ticket ^ | 6-17-2011 | Holly Bailey

Newt Gingrich is demanding an apology from NBC News after it aired a report citing complaints from unnamed former advisers blaming his wife, Callista, for many of the problems that led to his campaign's staff shake-up last week.

"I believe NBC owes Callista an apology, because the fact is my campaign is my campaign," Gingrich said in an interview with Fox News's Greta Van Susteren. "Yes, we make decisions as a couple, but in the end, I take full responsibility. And I think the program this morning was totally irresponsible, and personally reprehensible, and the kind of thing that makes it hard to get decent people to run for public office."

Newt is getting into Muskie territory now. His campaign is sinking fast.

The thing that caught my eye was the photo of his wife (hadn't seen her before.) A couple of things struck me - she is pretty creepy. And, do they have a factory that manufactures Calistas?

For once NBC got something right and Newt can’t handle it.

Newt has OBNOXIOUSLY used the term “we” when answering virtually any question over the last few years. “We” aren’t sure we’re running; “our” position is xxxx on whatever, etc.

So dragging his third or fourth wife or whatever she is into things at this point is fair game.

Calista isn’t my ‘cup of tea,’ but the point is that you will never, ever see NBC doing a report on Michelle Robinson Obama, i.e.. why she was never before ‘08 proud of her country, or on rumors about her and Jarrett’s undue influence on Oval Office policies.

This type story is why Daniels chose not to run, and stories about the Palins may drive Sarah not to run. Newt’s right about that point. The MSM cannot trash spouses/kids and expect good people to run for office.

I do not want Newt as president either...BUT....these nasty attacks on him are not good. Gingrich is not perfect....but then neither are the rest of us.

We can speak to the poor decisions he has made by dealing with substance rather than simple ad hominem. After all, the ad hominem form is argument is most used by liberals.

I am in total agreement with you, but at the same time, we have to choose our candidate with the press in mind. By this, I don’t mean foregoing excellent candidates like Palin or Bachmann because the press will take out after them, but the creepy, over-coiffed wife is a negative for a candidate. We cannot just whine about the inequities of the coverage as it won’t change.

If Callista Gingrich scares me, imagine what she will do for non-pubbies.

Newt has been slamming Paul Ryan. Newt/Callista owed $500,000 to Tiffany’s. Both of those are substantive reasons to not vote for him. Teasing about his spooky wife is just icing on the cake.

Newt Gingrich is demanding an apology from NBC News.....

Regardless of how much someone likes or dislikes Gingrich, it is good to see republicans getting more aggressive with the MSM. Palin has set a good example lately.

Maybe they have FINALLY realized there will be no friendly, or even fair, coverage of a republican in any circumstance. If you will be bashed anyway, why take the abuse in silence? It is time to challenge biased coverage instance by instance. The legacy media has been emulating Pravda for some time now. Candidates should challenge their credibility loud and often.

You are 100% right - Newt brings this on himself with the constant barrage of “Callista and I” blah blah blah. You don’t hear anyone else do that, or not much. I can’t name the spouse of Cain, Bachmann and only know about Todd Palin for reasons of his non political exploits, but even SP rarely answers a question about the campaign or policy with “Todd and I....”

Newt done brung this on hisself....

Oddly enough, Hillary & Pelosi have the same kind of eyes. I've seen photos of them with that same look. Maybe a FR has some of those photos - I didn't save them.

I did not like the way the press and Gingrich handled Ryan’s plan. Presently, I LIKE his plan. He is the only one who had the guts to put forward such a plan. Newt could have communicated his ideas on this one in a much better way. I believe that I already stated that I would not vote for Newt as president.

What he and his wife spend their money on regarding personal items is not germane in this case. Referring to his wife as “spooky” is ad hominem.

Personally, I might not choose the hair color or clothing another woman wears but I will not denigrate her for her choice....especially if she is involved with activities that demonstrate her care for others.

oh, from the Dems’ perspective, Calista is the perfect stereotype of a Republican woman. Too white, too blonde, too coiffed, too expensively dressed, etc., etc., etc. They think that’s the very embodiment of the DC species of Republican women. Then, in their view, Outside the Beltway Republican/conservative/tea party women are straight out of “The People of WalMart.” But THEY don’t stereotype or profile.

I disagree with some of what you have to say. A $500,000 debt that reeks of quid pro quo is not the sort of baggage that one wants in a Presidential candidate. I do make a decision about a person, especially a person with money and unlimited choices, when his/her appearance draws ridicule. Donald Trump’s hair is one such instance. The creepy finished product Callista Gingrich is showing the world is another.

Mr Gingrich , I have news for you. You seem to be in a bad place in politics. Your current wife is already making waves.
The jewelry, the staff quitting and your change in behavior.
You do not stand a chance in hell of being elected. All of your emails for money to me go into the trash. Your greatest political days are behind you. I once admired your grasp of history. The big glitch in your campaign? Your wife. She should be in the background supporting you quietly. She should not be the point person or equally involved in what you are trying to do.
