Is Facebook peaking in the US?
FT Tech Hub ^ | June 13, 2011 | Tim Bradshaw

Facebook lost nearly 6m users in the US last month, according to figures from Inside Facebook, sparking fresh concern that the social network’s growth is slowing.

Total monthly active users on the site still grew by 1.7 per cent between the beginning of May and early June, taking its total to 687m, according to Inside Facebook, part of the Inside Network, which provides news and analytics tools for social media, virtual goods and mobile apps.

But in the US there was a drop for the first time in a year, from 155.2m to 149.4m during the month of May. Canada also lost 1.52m users, while the UK, Norway and Russia lost “more than 100,000”.

That was all offset by big gains in Brazil, India, Mexico and Indonesia, Inside Facebook says, but “overall growth has been lower than normal for the second month straight, which is unusual”.

Is Facebook peaking in the US?

One can certainly hope. What a destructive tool.

I love Facebook! It has been a great way to get back in touch with old friends and relatives! I guess it’s all in the way you use it.

When 90% of the population is on it, it’s has to peak at some point. You’ll always have your 10%

The simple answer is that Face Book has a problem. A more complex answer is that people facing bankruptcy or home foreclosure are cutting their expenses to the bone ~ which includes NO CABLE TV, NO HIGHSPEED INTERNET, NO LANDLINE TELEPHONE ~ just the basics ~ a cheap cellphone deal from WalMart.

I don't see any room for hooking up Face Book in that.

“What a destructive tool.”
Hyperbole is not always your friend.

I am no fan of it, but why do you think it is destructive?

Facebook is free. I think that is what you meant.

FaceBook jumped the shark sometime in 2010 but it still will have it’s uses, especially for future president Palin.

It is useful too. When I meet a young lady I would like to date, I’ll check her page to see if she is paired.

As free as Face Book is, if you don’t have internet access, it ISN’T! All of which makes http://www.walmart.com/ip/Straight-Talk-Unlimited-Text-Talk-and-Web-Access-30-Day-Service-Card-Email-Delivery/15443344?findingMethod=rr at $45 per month look like a solution!

NO CABLE TV, NO HIGHSPEED INTERNET, NO LANDLINE TELEPHONE

I keep a budget. Along with the budget, I have flagged items to give up if money becomes short. One of the last things I intend to give up is cable TV and High speed internet.

The reason is because there is too much value for the dollars spent.

With Netflik we have all the movies we want to watch. With Facebook, we replace the post office and long distance calls to keep up with family. With the internet we can seek out deals and coupons much better than newspapers could ever do.

But then that is just me.

I suspect the reason facebook has peaked is as someone else mentioned, everyone interested in joining has joined.

My experience is that expensive cell plans is the LAST thing that people give up

why do you think it is destructive?

Because Facebook periodically resets its user's personal settings, exposing you and your info to the world.

Personally, I feel Facebook is evil. That's my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Let's say your budget was limited enough that you had to give up entertainment ~ but you're still looking for employment. That cellphone gives you 24/7 access to employers, and them to you!

Not having the internet (other than that WalMart email link) is something anyone cold deal with for a good long while.

I have a cell phone that only cost $10 a month (no frills, unlimited calls) so I have that covered. Anyone can get the same deal, there is no reason to have an expensive cell phone.

Next, I am retired, not really looking for a job.

Last, I keep my cell phone turned off unless I want to make a call.

But like I said, this is just me, others have different priorities.

I’m sure many of these Wienerests are simply hiding some of their prurient disorders.

Can’t stand FB. Don’t have an account. Don’t want an account. Am doing fine without an account. No needs to know what I had for breakfast and I don’t give a rat’s rear what flavor Starbucks they picked up this morning.
