‘Bomb Threats’ shouldn’t be taken seriously.

If someone means to do harm with a real bomb, they sure as hell won’t be calling and telling people about it before hand....

There were bomb threats called in for the embassy bombings...but it was about a week before...Of course, all security came out of the woodwork for the bombers and they worked around it.

More common then you think.

You're wrong!

I lived in London for six years during the 1980's when the Irish Republican Army was at the height of their bombing campaign.

One of the IRA's most effective techniques was to phone in a bomb threat at, say, a large department store, and then detonate bombs in cars parked by exits when the building emptied.

This way, the goons placed the police in a serious dilemma -- do the cops pass on notifying the public and keep them confined in an area of maximum blast damage, and avoid a possible chance to escape OR do the cops send the crowds scurrying in the direction of a bomb. The police almost always chose to investigate the vehicles around the exits before sounding an alarm, which resulted in large numbers of dead and wounded police. and maximized both casualties and fear.

Every bomb scare needs to be regarded as a serious threat, immediately and thoroughly investigated, with all guilty parties punished to the full extent of the law.

This has to be a fake new item. Bombs aren’t allowed to planes nor can bombs make threats. Terrorists with bombs are, for bombs cannot walk through security nor dial up to call in a threat. If I am wrong, that would be an item altogether news worthy.

Same here. The message is:

Service Temporarily Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

It would be nice to have a formal status message when this sort of thing is going on, so the FR user community knows that management is aware of the problem.

Thanks Jim and John. We only whine when we realize how much we rely on FR, and how comfortable we’ve become that FR has been up over 99% of the time for, what 13 years? Pretty respectable record.

I was on a plane, and mentioned to the stewardess that I HAVE A BOMBastic attitude.

I was only talking about my presence and how I can 'fill up a room' with personality, but the FBI and TSA met me when we deplaned, anyways.

Go figger.

“with all guilty parties punished to the full extent of the law.”

Terrorists of all colors, religions, male, female, etc. should be publicly hanged, after conviction in a military tribunal. Terrorism should be defined as an act of war, and should be regarded as such, not a criminal act.

This includes eco-terrorists. And this crapola of “one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter” is PC non-sensical junk.

Your story reminds me of a friend of mine. He was the facitlies manager for a large corporation that had two large buildings in an urban setting, with thousands of employees.

A bomb threat was phoned in—and the bomb would go off in exactly ten minutes.

In that ten minutes, the lobbies were cleared of people, and the so were the outside streets. A quick search of all the rooms of the lobbies was conducted. The execs were informed, and they wondered when the evac order would be issued.

The answer was it would take one half hour to evac the high rise buildings. The bomber would want to do the most damage, which means the bomb would be in the lobby or just outside the entrance.

So the answer was—leave everyone where they were as they were safe. Thousands of people on the sidewalks was a very tempting target to a bomber intent on publicity and doing a lot of damage.

After ten minutes, nothing happened. Never happened that day or anytime else.

What was done seemed like the wrong thing, but it was the right thing. I’d hate to ever have to make decisions like that.

That is because the IRA mostly did not want to kill the innocent. They called in the threat for warn people away to avoid innocents getting killed. They were losing the PR battle at that time, and funds from the Ted Kennedy wing of the IRA were cut off because of innocents being killed.

Muslimes, on the other hand, their AIM is to kill as many innocents as they can.

The question is will these new terrorist threats make ex DHS head Michael Chertoff another $100 million and create a new generation of x-ray scanners that irradiate us or create some mind control technology? It is total BS. After a while the transparency of this political manipulation becomes obvious to anyone with half a brain.

Instead of reacting to terrorist threats we should be examining what we can do to resolve the issue without spending many billions more that we don’t have. Most of us Americans over age 40 have spent most of our adult lives not dealing with “terrorism” on a scale that breaks the bank and intrudes on our liberties.

Why aren’t our politicians and officials actually examining why this terrorism exists instead of wasting our money and removing our liberties?

I once had relatives that traveled all over the Middle East in the 1950s to Israel to Arab countries and I can remember them saying that everyone was so friendly to Americans. Why has this changed? Answering that needs to be the solution and it is the only solution. Otherwise we’ll be broke and a non-free nation.

Hunh? We had a guy call in one day to inform the building guards that his former girlfriend's car parked in the basement had a trunkload of TNT rigged to blow up.

A similar thing happened at the relatively nearby Department of Agriculture building ~ same trick, but the bomber called in.

Sometimes there are real bombs. Sometimes there aren't.

Never imagine that bombers are rational people.
