Posted on 06/20/2011 10:38:18 AM PDT by Winged Hussar
Americans must to decide if, in the name of homeland security, they are willing to allow TSA operatives to storm public places in their communities with no warning, pat them down, and search their bags. And they better decide quickly.
Bus travelers were shocked when jackbooted TSA officers in black SWAT-style uniforms descended unannounced upon the Tampa Greyhound bus station in April with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and federal bureaucrats in tow.
A news report by ABC Action News in Tampa showed passengers being given the signature pat downs Americans are used to watching the Transportation Security Administration screeners perform at our airports. Canine teams sniffed their bags and the buses they rode. Immigration officials hunted for large sums of cash as part of an anti-smuggling initiative.
The TSA clearly intends for these out-of-nowhere swarms by its officers at community transit centers, bus stops and public events to become a routine and accepted part of American life.

Isn't an illegal search a Federal crime (deprivation of civil rights under color of authority)? The bomb-sniffing dogs are not the problem because they are not actually opening luggage and searching people but pat downs are illegal searches.
Do these goons have a reading comprehension problem or do they just not care? I know the answer, thanks.
Paging Bracken! This is like something right out of Castigo! Are strobe frisbees next? CREEPY!
And in my hometown, yet never heard about it.
The JBTs will claim that searching people taking “public transportation”, regardless of the fact it’s privately owned, is not “unreasonable” in the face of public safety needs.
Searching private cars at random is next.
I could see an argument being made for transit centers and bus stops, but not for public events.
TSA may have manpower to do security screening at football games, but football games are not covered by the charte for TSA, as there are no "transportation" activities incorporated in attending a football game, unless they are intending to stake out the parking lots to inspect vehicles at arrival.
They are clearly out of their jurisdiction if they screen at the stadium gates. At that point, they become a police force that can be mobilized for any purpose.
“Searching private cars at random is next.”
Walking is a form of transportation too.
Heard of a hunter caught near a reservior north of here who is being prosecuted under Homeland Security rules. Looking for the story, I found this:
Looks like we know the vehicle for the new American SS squad.
Good news is 300 agents would be toast if the American people wanted to get into a spitting match.
Hitler telegraphed his intentions in Mein Kampf, just as the megalomaniac currently occupying the White House did.
Tragically, the moron voter population reached the tipping point and freedom died.
Just like that.
The TSA has publicly stated they intend to go far beyond the airports. Including sporting events, transportation hubs, major highways, minor roads and random locations throughout the country.
That is exactly what happened. The ticks finally killed the dog.
There will be a big push to hire more so they can be a presence everywhere. Since they are union, can you think of a better way to expand their numbers?
Intrastate roads and local transit hubs should be beyond the jurisdiction of TSA, as they are a federal organization and roads and hubs are state and city domains.
Anything that does NOT involve TRANSPORTATION should be out of the jurisdiction of the TSA.
I’m not even convinced the TSA should have anything to do with transportation. Do we really need yet another national law enforcement agency? Especially one that has proven itself so prone to abuse of power.
The key phrase in the Constitution is UNREASONABLE search and seizure. And what is “reasonable” is now in the eye of the Wise Latina beholder.
Obama said, “We can not continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt2yGzHfy7s
“That we’ve set”? What did you “set”? Gestapo state.
TSA - Thug Security Agency!
Football games may not be in their charter but TSA is doing a great job getting some great grope time in at the local high school proms!
They just love that legalized sexual assault!
We need to start a national dialog on the purpose of the TSA being limited to TRANSPORTATION.
Then we can isolate the meaning to either: 1) international transportation ports (e.g., airports, shipping ports), 2) interstate transportation (e.g., roadblocks/checkpoints on federal interstate highways), 3) intrastate transportation (e.g. state highways), 4) cities and towns (bus stops, transit centers).
We can discuss federal overreach by talking about TSA being asked to set up screening checkpoints at: 1) stadium events, 2) high school proms, 3) other large public gatherings (parades, fireworks, permitted protests, etc.).
This would be a great topic for a talk radio host to introduce for national debate.
That oughta get entertaining...
Didn’t the National Joke mention that he was going to create a national civilian security force during his term? The TSA could be the makings of it.
I think Obama now has his brown shirts
Something we need to think about. [Spit]
Ok I just read this entire article and how the hell did all this happen under everyone’s nose?? 8000 incidents just last year of this type of random searches and Ive not heard a single thing about it, minus the airport stuff. Wow, this TSA needs to be put to bed fast.
TSA is why I’m now 100% against the war on drugs.
Just as the ATF gets defanged and new and greater beast appears.
The TSA is really another incarnation of “standing army” that the Founders despised and abolished.
Looks to me like the Fourth Amendment needs a little clarification, particularly with regard to what constitutes "unreasonable." People make up unconscious "reasons" for virtually everything they do.
Note to self: Rewrite Fourth Amendment.
I hear ya. A few elections back we had "observers" in our church. They were ACLU, I think, sent to see if we were engaged in electioneering. Before then, I couldn't have imagined government goons in the back pews taking notes. But now I can.
0bama wanted his private army of 200,000, he must be getting close to that number by now.
Frisked woman screams in anguish at Airport:
BTTT! Exactly. They’ve been condoning it for years, when the small group of the rest of us knew exactly where this was headed.
Ditto, me too.
Better yet is NO TSA, NO FEDGOV INVOLVEMENT IN PRIVATE TRANSPORTATION. There is ZERO Constitutional authority granted for such barbra streisand, period. I fail to understand why anyone on this site would tolerate, for one NANO-SECOND, such an intolerable and unconstitutional intrusion into their private transportation contracts with other private entities. The ONLY national dialogue we need is: “How fast can we END this perversion and jail or execute its perpetrators and those who authorized it.” Just the same as all those abominations practiced by the BATFags.
How fast can we END this perversion and jail or execute its perpetrators and those who authorized it.
One Nano-second would not be too fast.
OK, in the case of sharks, they should definitely be groped, molested, irradiated, and stripped :0-)
Bad, bad, bad Shark. *slapping*
Now I can’t even take a bus to visit you....
Doesn't look that way to me. Unless someone or some Gubmint entity has an ulterior motive, the language is clear.
The normal status of my person, house, papers, and effects is that they are under my control and accessible only to me or someone I have given permission to access or examine.
"Unreasonable" would be any action that is counter to that normal status. In other words...keep yer stinking paws off of me and my stuff you damned dirty agent!
You see, it presupposes a certain level of civility and decorum. When a Government agency has neither of those in supply, they are working in contravention to the Constitution.
It is WAY past time.
I’ll just wear one of those blue dresses/veils, then they won’t come near me, and will treat me respectfully...
No kidding. I continue to believe that the FedGov is trying to provoke an "incident". (Sure would hate to be working for the TSA these days).
Trouble is, I don't think they are going to be able to control the follow-on like they appear to believe they can.
Lots of potential for a very ugly backlash given all that we have been witnessing these last many years.
Aren't they brown?
That’s just nuts. The whole frigging thing.
