A mother who shocked America by drowning her five children in the bathtub may be freed by the end of the year, according to her lawyer.

Andrea Yates systematically murdered her children, aged between six months and seven years, at her suburban Clear Lake, Texas, home ten years ago today.

She then dialled 911 and told the first police officer who arrived at the house: 'I just killed my kids.'

The detestable Perky One will be thrilled. No doubt where Yates will land for an interview.

This woman was really a case of Post Partnum depression.
Her bizzare family refused to follow through with mental health treatment that she had begun, especially anti psychotic depression medicine.

Her husband insisted she also Home school all the children AFTER she already had several breakdowns.

I really feel this woman, now no doubt having received help for her mental illness, will leave jail realizing what she did.

A horrible tragedy that did not need to happen.

Before medicine and treatment for Post Partum Depression this occurence was much more frequent in the past and usually women who had this illness were put into “insane asylums” forever, and never received help ( cause there wasn’t any treatment 70 years ago.

Andrea Yates was found guilty in the first trial but the verdict was overturned on appeal becausse of erroneous testimony. The 2nd trial she was found not guilty by reason of insanity and was placed in a mental hospital. She would be released at the point in time the shrinks determined she was no longer insane. I guess that determination has been reached.

'I think that this year the doctors will recommend a regimen of therapy in a community-based outpatient facility,' he added.

***SIGH***, liberalism is definately a mental disorder. This women murdered her children, one by one, but, you know, it was just a mental disorder, so it really wasn't her fault...SHEESH!

This women should be executed or at least spend the rest of her life in prison.

I prefer execution for murderers.

I agree with you. IMO, it’s the husband who should have gone to jail. If you know the whole story, he was apparently a tyrant who kept impregnating her when she kept going into severe depressions with each pregnancy.

He never gave her a hand with the kids or the home schooling—just demanded that she do. It must have been a living hell for her.

I certainly hope she’s been declared an unfit mother and not allowed to keep any if she has more.

A number of years ago a local woman drowned three of her children and went to a state hospital.

Years later she was released, had three more children and then drowned them.

There are many mentally ill who are not killers.

I do not think that mental illness is a excuse not to execute. The propensity to kill is there, and the public needs to be protected.

The husband was useless and should have been charged with criminal neglect of mother and children. As for the madwoman, she has something beyond postpartum psychosis, needs to stay locked down.

When you know the whole story it is sickening and so tragic.

The Mental Health professionals and her doctors told the family she should not get pregnant again and begged the family to bring her and cooperate with treatment. The husband is one weird man, I can’t imagine any caring husband and father doing what he did.

Read the whole story and you will have a different view.

This is not a woman who just wanted to dump her kids, as in other stories. This woman had a psychotic depression. If you knew even the slightest about mental illness, you would be able to tell the difference. Also, it is very difficult to get an insanity defence.

But then, 70 years ago we just killed “mental defectives”..maybe you want to go back to that? And it was the PROGRESSIVES who wanted to kill mentally ill people, as well as pushing abortion for “ defectives”.

Postpartum depression can create such a situation.

Most medical professions are very, very concerned about this illness. In this case, the doctors pleaded with the husband and family for this woman to get help, not have more children and take medicine. The husband and family deliberately refused all that.

I’m sure Oprah has her aides all over her, just like she is gunning for Jaycee Dugard.

You, also do not know this story.
