AP Exclusive: Medicaid for the middle class?
AP ^

By RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR, Associated Press – 8 mins ago

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's health care law would let several million middle-class people get nearly free insurance meant for the poor, a twist government number crunchers say they discovered only after the complex bill was signed.

The change would affect early retirees: A married couple could have an annual income of about $64,000 and still get Medicaid, said officials who make long-range cost estimates for the Health and Human Services department.

A "Glitch"? A glitch is an intermittant radio in VFR conditions. This is more like loss of all electrical in solid VFR.

This is even funnier than shovel ready. The adjustment in State tax rates to pay for this would mean that your state taxes will have to exceed your income. Only people on the government payroll could dream this up.

Medicare chief actuary Richard Foster says the situation keeps him up at night.

"I don't generally comment on the pros or cons of policy, but that just doesn't make sense," Foster said during a question-and-answer session at a recent professional society meeting.

"This is a situation that got no attention at all," added Foster. "And even now, as I raise the issue with various policymakers, people are not rushing to say ... we need to do something about this."

>>>>>>>>>>>>>Snip>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

"The fact that this is being discovered now tells you, what else is baked into this law?" said Leavitt [Utah Governor], who served as Health and Human Services secretary under President George H.W. Bush. "It clearly begins to reveal that the nature of the law was to put more and more people under eligibility for government insurance."

They had to sign it to find out what was in it, but they still haven't gotten around to reading it. Many surprises ahead.

What doubly sucks is the first person that even suggests that this madness should be undone will be thoroughly demonized for “trying to roll back and cut Medicare”.

The only positive I see with this is how it will hasten the inevitable crash of the Ponzi scheme. Just give Medicare and Socialist Security to EVERYONE and be done with it!

I’ve been waiting for this.

The government can’t truly rule us until they control our access to medical care and our access to food.

At that point you’ll bend down to lick their boot. Oh, you could put up a fight. In which case they will make your life a living hell, perhaps even kill you.

The revolution, what ever form it’s gonna take, can’t start soon enough for me.

Well, that's nice. I make considerably less than that, and I get to subsidize them. Sounds fair. /heavy sarcasm

And we're only finding this out NOW??? A YEAR AND A HALF LATER??? I'm so glad the news media had all that free time to scrutinize Governor Palin's emails.

The failing Republic, when the majority start to vote themselves largess from the public trust.... So there go the Rats bribing the ignorant and uneducated public with their own tax dollars.

This is completely and utterly unethical but goes largely un-commented on by the Socialist main stream press.

Democrats and their social reparation funds have destroyed this once great nation. It should be made a crime to bribe the electorate with unfunded, unpaid for entitlement liabilities.

Most Middle Class folks in Queens would only enroll in Medicaid if it were “free.” Moreover, many docs in the area do not accept Medicaid. Consequently, we’ll have many more with insurance but without access to care.

..............."The Medicare actuary's office roughed out some examples to illustrate how the provision would work. A married couple retiring at 62 in 2014 and receiving the maximum Social Security benefit of $23,500 apiece could get $17,000 from other sources and still qualify for Medicaid with a total income of $64,000. We now have TWO homes outside the U.S. They can take their health care bill and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. Won’t affect me a bit and I won’t be licking any boots here or anywhere.

here we have several hundred pudgy arrogant elitist idiots dragging the most powerful nation on earth around by the nose and into a sinkhole,

when I was growing up I thought this could never happen in the USA. I always had confidence that if it ever got to this , the people would stand up and fight back (unlike the third world population) ,

I was wrong, we will march into the ovens just like the Jews did in Nazi Germany

Now, I have also thought about what you are doing...retiring outside the US. But my fear is can you get good medical care in some of these places that are friendly to Americans? It’s going to go downhill here but it’s still pretty darn good compared to most of the world. Or am I wrong?

Don’t let your pride get in the way, take it if for no other reason then to rob the criminals of a monopoly over the loot they stole from the rest of us.

This is among the biggest flaws among the right, we let our virtue guide us into doing exactly what the scam artist that created theses programs hope we will do, thus leaving them not the vast bulk of the loot to themselves.

You don’t discourage an activity by making it more rewarding to those who support and engage in it.

Be clear about this:
The industry groups and advocacy groups for health insurance agents and brokers have been bringing this up, including in Congressional testimony in the Thomas Register, since before the (unread by politicians) bill was presented on the Floor of the House.

I’ve linked to some of these early analysis on FR during the time of the fight over 96 hours to read the bill before voting.

A bit mindful of the times when an engineer would over-ride the “dead man’s pedal” by placing a weighted satchel on said pedal. Train could then speed along unattended while the “train driver” took care of his bidness.
The way our social engineers are driving, we’re liable to soon jump the track.

“Can’t do it. This just piles the debt onto our children’s backs. At the rate we are going, the next generation of Americans might become 3rd world serfs. :(”

And if you don’t do it you will get piles of debt onto our children anyway. At least if you do do it then the politicians in Washington will see that wall more as a tilde wave then the drastically less threatening slow steady rise of water that is more the next guy’s problem.
As a result they will be more inclined to act to protect themselves and ultimately us from this irresponsible program.

You see that there is the largest part of our problem with Washington’s spending and debt, the politicians now in office enjoying the fruits of their spending are not exposed to the costs of them spending cause it is indeed too long term.

By adding your weight to the pile you either diminish the value of fruits( dividing a finite sum up more) or you increase the rate of the problem thus making the problem far more immediate.

Either way as counter-intuitive as it may sound taking as much money as you can from the system is the best way to help destroy and/or reform it.

Here is a new twist you can look for. Just like many couples (retirement age) don’t marry or even divorce in some cases to increase their Social Secuirty, You can expect the same here so that when separate returns are filed bringing them below the $64K threshold each and single they will now qualify for Medicaid with a $120,000 plus income. You have to pass it to see what is in it and I’m telling you this will be the next foot to fall and that 3 million number will go to 6 million
