Posted on 06/21/2011 6:47:49 PM PDT by Hojczyk
In her memoir due out Friday, "Not Afraid of Life: My Journey So Far," the 20-year-old daughter of former Alaska governor/potential presidential candidate Sarah Palin reveals her true feelings about the father of her son, the daughter of her mother's 2008 running mate, and much more.
Palin writes that the first time she met the 26-year-old daughter of Sen. John McCain, she "ignored us during the entire visit." This was just before Senator McCain introduced Sarah Palin as his running mate. Palin adds that she "had a sneaking suspicion I might need to watch my back."
"Every time we saw Meghan, she seemed to be constantly checking us out, comparing my family to hers and complaining," she writes. "Oh the complaining."
Cindy McCain, the senator's wife, also rubbed the eldest Palin daughter the wrong way.
"I'd never seen people with so much Louis Vuitton luggage, so many cell phones, and so many constant helpers to do hair and makeup," Palin writes, adding that the would-be first lady looked "like a queen" and held "herself like royalty."
Palin writes that she was shocked when the senator's wife offered to be a godmother to her unborn baby: "I had just met her and I wondered why she wanted any type of guardianship over my child."
Palin also shares not-so-fond memories of her 2010 stint on "Dancing With the Stars," where she and her professional partner, Mark Ballas, finished in third place.
"I noticed some of the contestants rolled their eyes when they realized we'd survived to dance another day," she writes, adding that some of the contenders voted off "literally would not speak to us or acknowledge our presence."

That should be something to be thankful for.
I suspect this will sell like hotcakes among the crowd that lined up for Justin Bieber’s autobiography.
She seems to be figuring everything out. Good for her. The McCains are snakes, the left are snakes, and her ex-boyfriend and baby daddy is lower than a snake.
I noticed that they left out the part where she acknowledges that her actions essentially ‘were giving my family the finger’.
Well after 2 years of Meghan Mccain dishing snotty crap about the Palins, this is not surprising. Maybe even past due.
Boy, Cindy and Meghan are so classy./s
He is probably still upset that so many people refused to vote for him even with Sarah on the ticket.
I hope Sarah learned a lesson from all this.
>>Palin writes that she was shocked when the senator’s wife offered to be a godmother to her unborn baby: “I had just met
>>her and I wondered why she wanted any type of guardianship over my child.”
Since when does being a godmother imply guardianship? Maybe there was no ulterior motive on Cindy McCain’s part.
I really would have hoped that Bristol left out any comments on any of the McLames’.... I think that would have shown a touch more of class......
Remember. You are reading the judgement of a unmarried, teenage mother.
That was my reaction too, initially. However, looking back on all that Mega McCain has said in the last couple of years and the things that her daddy has declined to say, I’m glad that someone is batting for Team Palin. And saying that Mrs. McCain looked like a queen and carried herself like one strikes me as being a high compliment. It’s not something that one would ever say of Shelly 0bama, for instance.
I really wish there was a “like” button, so I could let you know you are correct.
The godparents are supposed to help the child's parents raise the child in the Christian faith, and in some cases, take over the raising of the child if both parents die. It's not as usual today but that is the tradition of being a godparent.
Well, I wasn't going to say it, but you pretty much called it exactly right.
Cindy probably knew that.
OK, what could be the ulterior motive?
Being a godmother is not a formal position with any guardian responsibility or authority.
Its what happens when you check FR after a glass of fine red wine. :-)
Actually, if McCain has an idea of how many of our votes were for Sarah and not for him at all, he’s even more upset. Good.
OK, your answer is helpful.
It simply wasn’t done within my family, for the reason you cite. “Recoil in horror” might be a bit strong. “Recoil in bewilderment” might be more like it.
I think that Bristol Palin’s “tell-all” book is unnecessarily trashy, regardless of the oafishly parvenu behavior of the McCains.
“Being a godmother is not a formal position with any guardian responsibility or authority.”
Read what Bristol actually wrote: “I wondered why she wanted ANY TYPE OF guardianship over my child.” Obviously Bristol didn’t think what you seem to think she was thinking.
Perhaps there are traditional expectations, but a godparent has no formal legal rights or responsibilities.
I found a wine (Merlot) from Argentina from the Mendoza area. OH, my goodness it is so good. Surprising enough it was at a local groceries, Ralph’s (King Super). I bought it because it was on sale, yea I am cheep. It was worth the $6.99.
We are all guessing right now of course, but my guess is that the book will reflect Bristol's national efforts in support of conservative causes, and is geared to positively influence her young, female audience.
Levi Johnson is a d-—— bag.
Meghan McCain, like her father, is a seriously flawed individual.
Bristol Palin, her mother and her father deserved far better than Johnson, the McCains, or the vile media cynics who attacked them so pointlessly.
What happened to the Palins is a demonstration by the leftist media about how they have honed “borking” and “quayling” to a fine art.
Conservatives need to figure out how we can get our own media organs functioning to counter these people.
Well, I'm on my 3rd Jack and Coke of the night so...
The Bristol Palin Derangement Syndrome seems to have infected a fair number of Freepers. Jealousy perhaps?
OK, given what you pointed out, I can understand Bristol’s reaction. I think it’s trashy to retell this awkward interaction in a public document. Forbearance is an underrated virtue.
I like red wine because it is the only thing that elevates my arthritis issues. :-)
The godfather/godmother thing probably did "bewilder" her a bit. I've always found it a rather alien concept, but the people into it all seem to think it's something you really need to do.
Think of it as one of those great cultural divides in this country that's simply invisible most of the time for most of the people.
You have never read the book, you have never read a review of the book, how can you with a straight face, describe the book as a “tell-all book “ and “unnecessarily trashy”?
Those ‘contestants’ that wouldn’t speak with her surely must know that most of the voting comes from the public. Right? I have to wait a day down here to get the video’s of the show.
I find it hard to believe she believes in God.
And that’s a bad thing?
Class is overrated. I prefer truth.
Yup - that's a real classy lassie - cough cough Can't find the photo of her and her moma posing for their support of gay marriage - lady McC reminds me of a Stepford Wife.
What a douchey comment. Thanks for contributing nothing to the discussion.
Fair enough. I will not comment further on the book until I have more information. It probably isn’t the sort of book that I would read, in any case.
The details about the luggage of the McCains, their entourage, and their oafishness quoted in this article may not be indicative of the general tone of the book. But it is the details of one’s language that reveal one’s character.
I thought the whole point of a godmother was guardianship, in the event of something untoward.
btw, I heard a scary statement on Greta. She asked if maybe John McCain will run again? Please no!
I almost posted an attack here, but I’ll refrain.
Meghan McCain is snot-nosed rich brat who has never had to do a days manual labor in her life, who had the advantages that the scions of wealthy powerful people enjoy. Courtesy at the least would have commanded that she at least be friendly to the family of her dad’s running mate, but she couldn’t even manage that. That’s real class.
Cindy McCain offering to be a “godmother” is bizarre to me. I’m a pentecostal and have never heard of a someone asking to be a godparent, it is something asked of, not asked for.
Great people talk about ideas. Average people talk about things. Little people talk about other people
Never said she was.
What a douchey comment. Thanks for contributing nothing to the discussion.
How is stating the truth "douchey"?
I almost posted an attack here, but Ill refrain.
Oh, go ahead, attack me for stating the truth...
Let me ask you all a question: How much credence would you give a hypothetical teenage, unmarried mother friend of your daughter's (or son) for her criticisms of others? Seriously.
