CBO, Pelosi unclear on Obamacares Medicaid glitch costs
Matthew Boyle - The Daily Caller Tue Jun 21, 8:12 pm ET
As details about the new-found Obamacare glitch, that allows for more than 3 million middle-class Americans to qualify Medicaid surface, the Obama administration and key members of Congress are mum on several points.
Was it intentional? According to the Associated Press, it was a negative result of a well-meaning effort. Obama administration officials and senior congressional Democrats, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi havent answered this question, and Pelosis office hasnt responded to requests from The Daily Caller seeking comment.
What I want to know is: did the CBO know about this? Did they include this spending in their original score of the law? said Michael Cannon, health policy expert at the Cato Institute, in an email. Or would this spending add even more to the cost of the law?
The CBO performed a cost analysis of the Affordable Care Act, and it contends it did take the costs of this new-found glitch into consideration.
We have been asked by a number of people whether, in its estimate of Medicaid enrollment under PPACA, CBO took into account the change made by that law in the income definition used to determine eligibility for Medicaid, the CBO said in a statement to the House Budget Committee. That income definition excludes the portion of Social Security income that is not taxable.

"It's, ah, going according to, ah, plan. Being, ah, exempt sure, ah, helps."
Well... we passed it and NOW we are finding out what is IN IT!!!
Right, Nancy??
It is also clear proof that Pelosi and Reid had no concept of the bill they pushed. Therefore, they were lying to the American people from the beginning. Their purpose was false, devious and sinister.
And I hope that this fact becomes a campaign issue in 2012. Regardless of people’s thoughts on the healthcare bill, how do you justify legislation which few if any congressmen read before voting on, which turns out to have provisions which these same congressmen are surprised to learn about after the fact? What does this say about Democrats legislative processes?
And Obama has to get his share of blame. He pushed this thing, and he signed it into law.
I hope that this legislative recklessness becomes an issue. Even those who favored this concept of socialized medicine may have pause about unknown pieces of it emerging after the fact.
Leftists don’t care about any of the details of the bill,
they just cared that it empowered the government, and more specifically, THEMSELVES, to take over the medical care system of the United States. These piddling details are of no consequence.
“Well... we passed it and NOW we are finding out what is IN IT!!”
Sorta like a stool sample, eh?
“....a negative result of a ‘well-meaning effort’..”
Pretty much sums up the legislation passed by the liberal Pelosi/Reid congress.
Bills should be short enough for all legislators — even Democrats — to read and understand. Anyone who voted in support of this health care monstrosity should be voted out of office for laziness and incompetence if nothing else.
Ding...ding...ding. Post of the day!
Exactly the same.
A perfect example of why policies should be approved by the executive agencies before they are passed by Congress. Any GS12 eligibility expert working in CMS would have caught that glitch and red flagged it. CBO is filled with illiterate morons.
The people who vote for these communists see no hypocracy that she’s worth $43 million bucks and obama “earned” $11 million bucks last year while they complain that the wealth is in the wrong hands. Guess only the wealth owned by conservatives is in the wrong hands.
They watch their beloved leaders being bribed and think it’s fine. But a conservative being bribed requires prison time.
It proves their minds ain’t right.
