Since when does abortion have anything to do with slavery?

According to the Radiance Foundation, abortion and slavery have a lot more in common than you might have thought. And to make sure you see the link between the two, the Alpharetta-based foundation has started a campaign to prop up nearly 50 billboards across metro Atlanta.

The billboards feature such slogans as "The 13th Amendment Freed us. Abortion Enslaved Us" and "Abortion makes three-fifths human seem overly generous." The billboards popped up across metro Atlanta on Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.

The billboards are part of a campaign targeted at persuading black women from resorting to abortions. Black women account for 30 percent of abortions but are only 12 percent of the population.

The campaign has raised many eyebrows from organizations like the NAACP who told the Huffington Post that likening slavery to abortion is slightly offensive:

"Comparing abortion to slavery certainly raises major concerns," Hilary Shelton, director of the Washington bureau of the NAACP, told HuffPost in an interview. "Women are not forced to have abortions the way they were in servitude. Slavery was about not having the right to make any decisions. Women were actually bred to produce children for the purposes of profit. This is so far removed from that, that if it weren't such a serious issue, it would almost be laughable." The foundation also launched other similar campaigns across the country in the past to target black women from contributing to the so called abortion "epidemic."

Actually, there are similarities between a system that considers human beings as property, and another which treats human life as an inconvenience.

But wait: All my liberal friends keep telling me that Mr. Jefferson didn’t really believe in God.

Slavery and abortion are both based on the theory that some human beings aren’t really human beings, so you can kill or enslave them without feeling bad about it.

I think there's more to it than that. The entire denial of sexuality as a gift to be treasured and revered rather than just something to be serviced is in itself somewhat enslaving. It starts the process of objectification of both male and female and invites the idea that freedom should include the elimination of consequence. And then there is the burden, somewhat taboo to discuss, of post traumatic stress which is also incredibly enslaving. Read the stories of the men and women who are involved with Project Rachel and Rachel's Vineyard sometime.

Abortion is takes that line of reasoning one step further by equating other human life with bodily tissue-- to be destroyed or kept as the owner sees fit. Even that logic falls short; you can't elect to amputate an otherwise healthy limb, for instance. You can intentionally maim yourself, but you will spend time in a mental institution (at least) for doing so. It won't be celebrated by the left as a choice.

This is a very interesting argument that is new to me!

Pro-abortion is all about "choice" and "it's my body." Well, it's absolutely true that it's NOT only your body to destroy as you wish. Also, it would be very hard to KEEP a body part if the doctor decided you would die if you did. JimRob's leg, many women's breasts. One's body is not wholly one's own, and certainly the only reason people like Scott Peterson are on Death Row today is because their murder contained TWO PEOPLE including an unborn baby.

Jefferson believed in the Divine Creator,
but that’s about as far as I’d go.
He was hostile to the Gospel, however.

I was well aware of the sex-change exceptions to my contention since sexual deviants are a protected class of the liberals. Normal rules do not apply to them because they are so special.

I was not, however, aware of the want to be amputated cult as pointed out in nina0113's posts.

Wow! A real eye opener that we've sunk as a society to this level of depravity. But I suppose it is the natural outgrowth of abortion on demand.

Just as polygamy, polyandry, threesomes, marriages between close relatives and even marriages with animals will be the natural outgrown of gay marriage.

Actually Jefferson accepted the philosophy and teachings Jesus Christ. He had trouble with questions of His divinity. That being said, he spent a great deal of his life investigating theology on his own as well as part of his formal education. This is quite different from the liberals today who reject God out of laziness that the confuse with intellectual superiority. Jefferson was to smart and privileged for his own good. I consider him the original limousine liberal.

That idiot with the NAACP is so obtuse that she can’t even fathom that the equivalent of the slaves in the analogy could possibly be the unborn babies getting slaughtered as opposed to the abortion-procuring women worshipping their god of convenience.

Well said.

One thing about Jefferson that I respected was that he was elite without being elitist.

He was a privileged, talented, “special” individual,
but he didn’t believe that granted him the authority to make decisions for others,

like modern libs do.

You are of course, correct. I would, though, add that since only women can have abortions, maybe they mean the abortion capable population (of women), as in say 12% of population being black, would be about 12% of women being black, etc.

That’s not to say that it wasn’t written poorly. Nor do I attempt to defend the overwhelming amount of proof that the ability of journalists to write clearly, concisely, objectively, or intelligently has been lost. (”If you can’t read this, thank a [public educational system] teacher.”)

The items which nina pointed out, as with homosexuality and trans-sexuality, used to be treated as MENTAL DISORDERS!

I personally believe that these were treated like this, well mostly because, THEY ARE!

Even the village idiot has figured out by now that among blacks the issue of slavery is raised every time a black wants something, be what is wanted good, bad or indifferent.

Abortion is worse than slavery. It’s only aim is the murder of a helpless human being. Slavery steals liberty. Abortion steals life.

What was interesting just a couple of days ago was the government's new warning labels on cigarettes that display the effects of cancer. Very revealing in that the government believes images are very persuasive in getting a message across. Although they will argue in court that this is somehow a violation of a person's rights in forcing them to view such images (except for cigarettes because the government is doing it).

How ironic that the government has all kinds of warnings out about what cigarettes and alcohol can do to the pre-born baby, especially in the earliest months of gestation, when they are permitting them to be slaughtered for nothing more than convenience sake.

I beg to differ. A lot of women, so many young women especially, are actually forced into killing their baby.
