Earth to Al Gore! Rolling Stone rant out of this world
Calgary Sun ^ | June 23, 2011 | Lorrie Goldstein

Posted on 06/23/2011 6:15:44 AM PDT by Leigh Patrick Sullivan

Judging from his latest 7,000-word rant in Rolling Stone titled, "Climate of Denial: Can science and the truth withstand the merchants of poison?" Al Gore lives on another planet.

One where, he complains, the media, especially television, are in cahoots with the "merchants of poison" (Big Coal, Big Oil) to deny the truth about global warming.

This would be the same media that uncritically fawned over his 2006 film, An Inconvenient Truth -- which was over-hyped climate porn -- turning it into one of the most successful "documentaries" of all time and winning Gore the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize and an Academy Award.

And yet, wails Gore, the media aren't framing the climate debate correctly as a "struggle for the soul of America" between "Science and Reason" in one corner and "Poisonous Polluters and Right-wing Ideologues" in the other.

Gore's attitude, typical of the totalitarian streak in the liberal left, is there's one "correct" position -- his -- and everyone else is a fraud, charlatan or in the pay of the oil industry.

Even his erstwhile climate ally, U.S. President Barack Obama, falls short in Gore's witheringly critical view of all present and past politicians, other than himself.

While eminently preferable to the Republicans, Gore laments:

"President Obama has never presented to the American people the magnitude of the climate crisis. He has simply not made the case for action. He has not defended the science against the ongoing withering and dishonest attacks. Nor has he provided a presidential venue for the scientific community -- including our own National Academy -- to bring the reality of science before the public."

Again, one can only assume Gore lives on another planet.

Obama's problem isn't he hasn't tried, for better or worse, to convince Americans of the magnitude of the climate crisis.

It's that his efforts are stalled in a U.S. Congress where politicians are pre-occupied with the cratering U.S. economy rather than putting a price on carbon dioxide emissions.

Which raises the question of why, if Gore really believes global warming poses an imminent, existential threat to humanity, he doesn't return to politics, rather than preaching to the converted in Rolling Stone?

If Gore believes, as he writes, "the United States is the only nation that can rally a global effort to save our future and the president is the only person who can rally the United States," why did he duck out of the 2008 presidential race? Why is he on the sidelines now?

Does he fear criticism from environmentalists like Frank O'Donnell, president of Clean Air Watch, who told politico.com in response to Gore's Rolling Stone diatribe: "Gore has exactly the right message, but he is a flawed messenger given he ducked the climate issue when he ran for president in 2000"? (Ouch!)

Is it because he could no longer simply make self-righteous proclamations and would actually have to convince ordinary Americans of the wisdom of paying higher prices for everything in the middle of a devastating economic downturn?

Or is it because Gore, described by the The Telegraph in 2009 as potentially "the world's first carbon billionaire" enjoys making money too much from the climate change industry he helped to spawn, while jet-setting around the world leaving a Godzilla-sized carbon footprint in his wake?

>> “Climate of Denial: Can science and the truth withstand the merchants of poison?”

Actually, Algore asks an excellent question here.

The “merchants of poison” are those pushing the hidden Communist agenda of global warming in an attempt to tear down the free world. Chief among them is Al Gore himself.

Science and Truth (the *real* kind, not the fake grant-money-fueled “climate scientists”) are struggling mightily to be heard — to do actual science and discover whatever truths there really ARE to be found. Will they win the day? I pray they will. There are signs that they are gaining ground in the court of public opinion.

“...the United States is the only nation that can rally a global effort to save our future and the president is the only person who can rally the United States,”

Strange... Liberals spend half their time belittling American achievement and exceptionalism and the other half posing America as the savior of the planet.

Well.... you can have it one way or you can have it the OTHER way... but not BOTH!!!

How may mansions and gas guzzling vehicles does Gore own?

At least Gores pot smoking son has the decency to do his 100 mph jaunts down the highway in a fuel efficient vehicle.

If you're going to break the law and ignore public safety, at least be green about it....right?

Gore has always refused to debate anyone who has climate views different than his. He even refuses to appear on a panel with anyone who has an opposing viewpoint.

You had your chance, Al, all your planets were aligned and yet you lost. Deal with it.

Yes, this raving lunatic was almost president. That to me is the most frightening thing about him by far.

He was probably always half nuts. The defeat in 2000 just pushed him over the edge. Either that or he realized swindling people out of millions (billions?) was more fun that politics.
