I have several of his roses in my garden - they are all floriferous, disease resistant and fragrant. David Austin has transformed the rose industry by hybridizing modern everblooming roses with fragrant Old Garden Roses - one of his roses - named "Graham Thomas" after the great British rosarian, is a large yellow semi-climber that does great in heat - you may want to consider it for your garden.

Yes. The witching hour approaches - the Bugler is on his way - I begin to hear his measured tread. But a few more minutes to commune with my fellow Canteeners!

THE SOLDIER’S CODE

Gen Dwight D. Eisenhower addresses troops of the 101st Airborne Division 5JUN1944 prior to D-Day Normandy

The Soldier’s Code

1) I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.

2) I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender my men while they still have the means to resist.

3) If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.

4) If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me, and will back them up in every way.

5) When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am bound to give only name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies, or harmful to their cause.

6) I will never forget that I am an American fighting man, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower, August, 1955.

The hamsters are running at full speed - Verizon gave us a wireless internet router because our network card was shot. All is well at this juncture.

Sounds like you are sure a great teacher, ML.

Congrats to you and your student. :-)

Wanna know what I did today? Well, aside from work, I went out into the garden and noticed lots of japanese bettles on the grapes and the cherry and peach trees. So I picked them off. I bet few people here know what it feels like to hold a handful of beetles (50, to be precise) in one hand at once (and I have small hands too).

The above has nothing to do with anything. I just like to gross people out. :-)

I want to know more about that. They suggested that for me today, because my wireless card is so ole...1G. LOL!

They have a 4G wireless router for $49 at Verizon and the monthly payment is less than the aircard is.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!

Must retire – the 0500 Reveille approaches relentlessly – the bugler already mounts the parapet. Will chat with you all on the morrow.

Good night, God bless you, and God bless the United States of America!

Godspeed our Troops around the Globe – especially those in harm’s way – by virtue of their service and sacrifice we continue to live in Freedom!

Hi! Well we're pretty much sunny, cool, breezy - temps: lows around 9 or 10C and the highs around 17 to 20C. Which relates to something like lows in the 40's and highs in the low 60's. So, brisk.

(((hugs)))

Good job, firefighters!!! Great to hear about most folks still having homes to go home to. The waiting must be horrible!

You are gonna be able to “feel” weather changes forever more.

Keep healing well.

I am over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I’m too old to track down terrorists. You can’t be older than 42 to join the military. They’ve got the whole thing bass-ackwards. Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn’t be able to join a military unit until you’re at least 35*

*For starters: Researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.*

*Young guys haven’t lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. ‘My back hurts! I can’t sleep, I’m tired and hungry’. We are impatient and maybe letting us kill some ***hole that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for a while*

*An 18-year-old doesn’t even like to get up before 10 a.m. Old guys always get up early to pee so what the hell. Besides, like I said, ‘I’m tired andcan’t sleep and since I’m already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical SOB....’ *

*If captured we couldn’t spill the beans because we’d forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real stretch.*

*Boot camp would be easier for old guys. We’re used to getting screamed and yelled at and we’re used to soft food. We’ve also developed an appreciation for guns. We’ve been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the screaming and yelling.*

*They could lighten up on the obstacle course however. I’ve been in combat and didn’t see a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training.*

* Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too. I’ve never seen anyone outrun a bullet.*

*An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him.. He’s still learning to shave, to start up a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn’t figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.*

*These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm’s way.*

*Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple of million pissed off old farts with attitudes and automatic weapons who know that their best years are already behind them*

****How about recruiting Women over 50 .....with PMS !!!
