WASHINGTON, June 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the University of California, Berkeley's Center for Race and Gender today released a report based on available data and interviews with experts that documents growing Islamophobia in the United States and offers recommendations about how to challenge the troubling phenomenon.
[Dr. Hatem Bazian, founder of the Islamophobia Research and Documentation Project at UC Berkeley, spoke at the Washington, D.C., news conference held this morning at CAIR's Capitol Hill headquarters to announce the release of the report.]
The groundbreaking report - titled "Same Hate, New Target: Islamophobia and Its Impact in the United States 2009-2010" -- offers a definition of Islamophobia as a "close-minded prejudice against or hatred of Islam and Muslims" and an overview of its growing negative impact in the United States. After defining the term, the report states: "It is not appropriate to label all, or even the majority of those, who question Islam and Muslims as Islamophobes."
Special sections in the report focus on the manufactured controversy over the Park 51 Islamic community center in Manhattan, the 2010 Oklahoma ballot initiative targeting Islamic principles (Sharia) and Islamophobia in the 2010 elections.
"This report shows that Americans who embrace pluralism must act together to prevent Islamophobia from being accepted in mainstream society," said CAIR National Legislative Director Corey Saylor, one of the report's co-authors. "Islamophobia is the new face of an old hate that has targeted minorities throughout our nation's history."

Those listed as actively promoting Islamophobia included Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer, co-founders of the anti-Muslim hate group Stop the Islamization of America (SIOA); Act! for America leader Brigitte Gabriel; and GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich. Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda were also listed as sources of Islamophobia.

gee.... possibly things that Muslim do that causes Islamophobia??
Nah, couldn’t be!
Imagine that...............I wonder why?...............
Or as we like to call it, people finally waking up to reality.
Being suspicious of Muslims is not a phobia.
The phobia is on the part of those who coddle, excuse, and apologize for Muslims because they are afraid of a violent response if they don’t.
Bet they never thought of that.
Bet they never thought of that.
Doesn’t look like `Islamaphobia’ made the list.
But `Ithyphallophobia’ did: fear of seeing, thinking about or having an erect penis.

Correct. A phobia is an irrational fear.
CAIR, UC Berkeley Growing New Islamophobia in U.S Report Documents
It’s like growing weed, but incredibly more lucrative.
As others have pointed out, when the author states:
definition of Islamophobia as a “close-minded prejudice against or hatred of Islam and Muslims”
the author is ignoring the root of the word. A phobia is an irrational rear of something that poses no threat. Since so many people realize what phobia actually means, and since some level of fear of Islam or Muslims is obviously rational, the author is unintentionally subverting his own position.
Once you get a person to dismiss an argument it is much harder to get them to consider a related argument later.
CAIR us just upset they lost there Fed tax-exempt status, which was their own fault anyway for not following IRS rules. Sore losers.
"And somebody, like I said yesterday, somebody needs to grab the Muslim world by the shirt collar, backhand it a good one, knock it into the damn corner and say straighten up or we're gonna eradicate you beetles from the face of the Earth. "
