ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Gay marriage will become legal in New York state after the Republican-led state Senate voted to approve it. Advocates are calling it a historic step as New York stands to become the sixth but by far the largest state to legalize same-sex marriage.
Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo lobbied hard for the bill and has promised to sign it.
The Senate vote is viewed as a major gain in an effort to allow gay marriage nationally.

The idiots didn’t legalize homosexual marriage, they’re laying the groundwork to persecute those that don’t support it!
Welcome to HELL,New York!
They just spit on Christ
They don’t call it “Screw York” for nothin’
That’s my point. If they want to find a pro-gay minister who wants to marry a gay couple in a state that’s passed this garbage then SO BE IT.
BUT..don’t FORCE those Clergy who DON’T believe in it to conduct it.
Welcome to the GAY APPLE, folks. Everything Guliani did to clean up the city is now going to be undone over time.
Yes, Democrats, screwing the American people, one vote at a time. And we thought that Anthony Weiner was crazy!
The Log Cabin Republicans strike again.
Supposedly the delay in passing the bill was due to last minute negotiations to have strong legal protections for religious organizations not to have to deal with same-sex marriage.
There have been very real fears that religious organizations will be sued with the legalization of homosexual marriage. Reason being, the liberal view being that discrimination against homosexuals is just like racial discrimination, and liberal judges agreeing. Even though homosexuality is not a protected class in federal civil rigts laws, liberal judges have begun to pretend that it is.
#NYGOP, you suck!
Mega-BINGO, there!!! Fake same-sex "marriage" has never been about the way the two people involved see themselves, it's about how EVERYONE ELSE will be coerced to look at them.
And the MSM is already saying how historic and symbolic this is. They are saying how it all started in New York at Stonewall, and now New York has come full circle by legalizing homosexual marriage.
Look for many puff pieces in the MSM in the days ahead in celebration of this.
Well at last! Andrew Cuomo can marry his father, Mario!
Those so-called protections will go bye-bye at the drop of a liberal judge’s hat with the first lawsuit.
Justices of the peace won’t have a conscientious objection capability — this is not usually a problem among actual religions, in which, say, a Mormon priest won’t marry non-Mormons, or an Islamic imam won’t marry non-Muslims, and there is no legal complaint.
I'm officially an independent now. Screw them all!
Not to worry, Jesus is taking notes, so to speak.
Of course the MSM is. I’m just waiting for us to weasel in that Mitt Romney is the GOP front runner and presumptive nominee in that conversation to add to my misery.
My Senator voted against, but my Assemblywoman’s son is gay. Hey, Sayward, let’s add more freaking libs to the NYS voting rolls! /s
Like all legislation their will be holes in it and it wouldn’t suprise me if at somepoint like adoption agencies closing in MA ( Catholic Church ) as to not abide by laws that crossed over their moral convictions, I can see religious marriages not being performed in NY, if their is a loop-hole in this. Call me crazy but look what we have seen in the last 3 years. Oh well, it will be a booming industry in bordering states. Suck to be NY....
Illinois Republicans have more backbone than this — it could be because none of them attempt to run in Crook County.
And I think the shortest verse would also apply:
I'll look for a LOT of homosexuals getting infected with HIV in their wanton celebrating tonight. They only need the mildest excuse for debauched behavior.
And the homosexual pride parades will be extra special this year because of the desire to celebrate this history.
Has any culture in history ever recognized homosexual marriage? Until recent years? I was talking to someone who said homosexuality was very open in ancient Rome and ancient Greece. They took issue with me saying that while tolerated, it was not put on the same legal status as male/female marriage.
I always wonder where it will end. Homosexual marriage was inconceivable even less than 20 years ago. It makes you wonder what will be normalized and/or forced through courts in the next 20 years.
In addition to this, though, I wonder about the survival of our culture and society, when we have normalized so many negative behaviors. The “baby mama” culture, the gang culture, the pornography culture, the idiocracy of the entertainment business, etc.
Makes me want to vomit for a number of reasons...
Makes me want to re-evaluate my GOP registration.
Wish there was a viable 3rd alternative...
It seems two elderly northern district NY GOP bags, with their reported “f___ it” attitudes have decided it’s okay to point their collective butt-hole at the constituency.
I know, FRiend, it sickens me too!
As a resident of the State of New York, I must say I am sick over this ruling. I am also worried about the exact nature of the religious exemptions. But what upsets me is that the voter in NYS had no say in this matter, and from what I read, that is because unlike California, the voter cannot overturn what the legislature deems as legal. Is there no state in the union that refuses to capitulate to this devilry?
They'll get sued anyway. 0bamacare came with an executive order that supposedly banned the financing of the murder of unborn children but that was sued away. Any "protections" for clergy or religious organizations will similarly be sued away.
Time to recall the GOP RINO bastards who voted for this piece of Sodomite perversion
Taking names... and waving goodbyes, to those who voted for this, and to respect for reality. They can call it whatever they want. Marriage is what it’s always been and it always remains so. And hopefully we can have the law reflect that again soon.
Legalizing something doesn’t make it morally right.
Often law does reflect a morally proper viewpoint, but when it does not, in this specific case, it is a perversion of what the law is supposed to do.
And every divorce lower in NY just popped the cork on their favorite Champagne.
Sad thing is the Republican-led senate voted to approve it. How many RINOs and liberal republicans - nothing more than democrats with an “R” in front of them - screwed the state over on this one?
If I recall correctly, NY was one of the first states to legalize abortion.
The apostacy and end time as described in the New Testament is being played out before us. And the pace is picking up. This means that all of this will end much sooner than later.
Marriage was ordained by God right after the creation of Eve, at the dawn of civilization. It came before the fall of man and even God’s promise to Abraham the nation of Israel. That is how important marriage (between a man and a woman) is to God. These secural, empty and soul-less people have NO IDEA with whom they are dealing with and with the wrath that is awaiting them.
As I posted on the “vote in process thread”, our NY GOP just consigned itself to permanent minority status.
We’ll see...I’m not so optimistic.
These idiots make it up as they go along. I have no problem co-existing with homosexuals; just don’t force me to think it’s normal, or natural; it’s not.
In CA a single gay judge can rule a voter-led constitutional amendment to be unconstitutional.
There’s no place where some liberal in some position of power can’t attempt to undo what voters want. If it isn’t the legislature it’s the governor, or the state supreme court. Or it’s a liberal secretary of state (ex WI). Or then they go to whatever federal court is there. We have to be engaged all the way all the time and force them to either do their job or force them out.
That's because there is only one ultimate culmination of the Age.
