The Chinese government has sentenced Gao Yanjun, a butcher from the northern city of Jinzhou, to life in prison -- and four others to up to 15 years in prison -- for illegally adding poisonous, industrial-grade nitrates to meat products they sold, in order to enhance their color and texture

Yeah, otherwise they’d have sentenced him to life in prison.
Everything imported from China should have blinking neon lights on it, to give people fair warning.
I should have included the URL:

Why, buy American, of course! :-)
What a stupid story.
“...consuming nitrate-laden processed meats like hot dogs, sausage, and lunch meats, results in a 67 percent increased risk of developing pancreatic cancer...
...children who consume processed meats with nitrates and nitrites are an astounding 74 percent more likely to develop leukemia, as well as pancreatic and colorectal cancers...
...industrial-grade nitrates are more deadly than food-grade nitrates...”
(pig intestines, yum, yum)
I check many food products before I buy, whether they are from China. I have put many back on the shelf brcause they are. I would rather spend more money to ensure quality.
Keep an eye on where your over-the-counter and prescription drugs come from. Ditto durable goods (remember the contaminated dry wall?), textiles, pet food, everything. Everything. Although it's getting much harder now to know what's going on because so many domestic producers are buying raw materials from China.
China is the main culprit, but there are others. I remember a case way back in the 70s, I believe, where they flagged a shipment of contaminated steel coming in from Mexico. It was recycled -- and radioactive.
Basically, if it comes from a country that seems to hate our guts, I don't buy their crap.
And don't mention illegal farm workers... Because crap is basically what they are doing -- on our produce, in our dairy, and everything else they touch.
I've told my wife we may just have to go out and find 40 acres and a mule somewhere. Cheers!
5 years ago I bought a big ham during a supermarket special and ate ham for a week. At the end of the week I had the symptoms of insulin shock, went to the ER where my blood sugar was normal and I was told I must have an allergy to ham. Took me two weeks to fully recover. Every meal was followed by an attack of lessening severity.
Needless to say I don’t eat sausage or lunch meat except very rarely any longer. I also had to cut caffeinated coffee out for the same reason.
I love ham.
But he passed with a healthy red glow to his skin...so he had that going for him.
You know, of course, what those bastards did to pets in 2007. Accordingly, when I buy any dog treats I always look carefully at the package and if it says "Made in China" I will not buy it.
I’d still like to know how
long it takes for the average
Chinese cadaver to decompose.
