WASHINGTON -- President Obama says technological innovations such as robots can help pump jobs into the economy and spur growth in clean energy and advanced manufacturing.

In his radio and Internet address Saturday, the president echoed a plan he unveiled Friday in Pittsburgh to join the federal government, universities and corporations and re-ignite American manufacturing with an emphasis on cutting-edge research and new technologies.

"Their mission is to come up with a way to get ideas from the drawing board to the manufacturing floor to the marketplace as swiftly as possible, which will help create quality jobs, and make our businesses more competitive," Obama said in his address, which was taped Friday during his visit to Carnegie Mellon University, where he saw a display of mini-robots that explore water and sewer pipes.

He also marveled at robots that can defuse a bomb, mow a lawn, even scrape old paint.

Seems that Geithner didn't get the message:

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told the House Small Business Committee on Wednesday that the Obama administration believes taxes on small business must increase so the administration does not have to “shrink the overall size of government programs.”

The administration’s plan to raise the tax rate on small businesses is part of its plan to raise taxes on all Americans who make more than $250,000 per year—including businesses that file taxes the same way individuals and families do

Think it’s just a coincidence he was clobbered a few days ago for his smear of automation and today he announces a half-billion support for automation? Is he just wasting a half-billion to overcome his idiotic remark from a few days ago?

I’m so confused with this idiot...didn’t he say technology, like ATM’s, were kiling jobs?

If this moron gets reelected I’m leaving the US. And I’ll really do it unlike lying liberals that said the same thing about GW in 2004.

The number one thing that Obama could do to give the robotics industry a boost would be to fund NASA and announce that we are going to use robots to build a moon base.

But then he just gutted NASA.

Yes, but this administration is also pushing for... you know... the constitutional right for robots to unionize.... it is a basic liberty for all robots... and then they can be programmed to vote D.

Last week: Technology, such as machines tht take jobs away from human, such as ATMs replacing bank tellers, or assembly line robots displacing manufacturing workers caused the economy to tank and be slow to recover.

This week: Building more worker displacing technology will save the economy, and create jobs.

I'll be danged! He accidentally let slip his real origin, and it isn't America, Kenya, or Canada! In fact, his country fought a war against America, AND WON!

He's from Grand Fenwick!

After reading a few of the comments video etc following the post, I came to the conclusion that automation, with provisos can keep America going. All robotic machines must be made in the USA; plant efficiencies would require more machines and thus increase employment at the robotics and several plants to maximize profit; set a minimum of 20% humans at the factories - hit the start button, quality, shipping etc and other items the machines cannot do readily; and let those remaining employees unionize or not as they see fit.

The products trucked by American drivers, shipped within the US and to other countries may get our country going. Oh, how to finance this? Grant immunity for criminal and civil tax liabilities attributed to offshore BS etc, Require the repatriated money be used for Plant etc within three years. Gradually get rid of corporate taxes and thus attract more investors to the US. People always pay the tax which is passed through the corps to the product.

Oh yes, have a Kangaroo court sentence Obama and his
Marxist buddies to 20 years at Leavenworth along with all Congressmen and Senators

“And you don’t even have to be able to read and write for these new jobs,” Obama added.

In a brilliant display of political foot work he would explain that he meant to say “illegal robots”.

The GOP needs to hammer home a sound message on the economy without getting bogged down in all the nonsense associated with the "free trade" argument.

A perfect case in point is the ongoing debacle involving Boeing, which has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in new facilities in South Carolina to build its newest generation of passenger jets -- only to have the National Labor Relations Board shut the operation down because it's located in a non-union state.

The GOP needs to point out that we have no business complaining about U.S. companies moving jobs overseas when their own f#%&ing government here in the U.S. is often the biggest obstacle they face when trying to conduct business.

Obama:

and they are so high tech that they don’t even need start up capital! Or operating capital! Or profits! Or stockholders!

They are so high tech that they just “are”.
