US military leaders fear Afghanistan withdrawal will increase soldier deaths
The Telegraph ^ | 25 June 2011 | Philip Sherwell

Posted on 06/26/2011 5:22:27 AM PDT by huldah1776

"President Barack Obama's decision to order a bigger and speedier reduction in troop numbers than advised by his top military commanders will increase American casualties during the pull-out, Pentagon planners fear." *** "On the ground, US commanders believe the announcement means it will now be necessary to abandon plans to take their fight against the Taliban to the violent eastern mountains bordering Pakistan where the Afghan war was born.

They had wanted to try and repeat the successes since Mr Obama's "surge" was begun in 2009 during fierce fighting in the southern provinces of Kandahar and Helmand."

Too bad we believe in the Constitution and the OFFICE of the President, otherwise there would be no reason for Congress not to use the same logic the WH is using to attack Libya, and our forces could attack the enemy in northern Pakistan. Kind of.

This could be characterized as the surge withdrawal to reelect the pretender.

Let’ see - hmmmmmmmmm - Community organizer to CIC?
Oh yea, he knows all about military strategy. In fact, he knows everything about everything. Just ask him or his staff, or the State Run media.

What does Obastard care about our troops as long as he can garner a few extra votes from the left?

It’s this political posturing instead of fighting to win that will kill more American Soldiers. The old press should go and hang themselves for their complicity in these deaths.

My son is in southeast Afghanistan right now. When he arrived they took over an area from an ally of ours. The transfer took about 1 mo. While this ally had authority over the area it was quiet, any nonsense was met with big guns, they played offense, something our troops are forbidden to do. Now that the ally is gone, the attacks are daily. The Taliban knows that we are hamstrung, we the Americans are soft targets. While the ally was pro-active and were able to quell the attacks, we are reactive. Last week, within my son’s platoon, while on patrol, 3 Purple Hearts were awarded. They are engaged just about every time they leave the wire.

It makes me ill that the ROE are so restrictive and favor the enemy not our troops. Now as more and more leave, will our guys be able to fight? If things remain as is, there will definitely be more deaths. Obama already has more troops killed on his watch than all 8 yrs. under GWB. It is NOT that the Taliban are better fighters either. It is because they use our ROE against us!!!

And by the way, according to my son, the ISAF patch they wear stands for I SUCK AT FIGHTING. What a morale booster!

They are already 5 times higher since 0 became president, because of his STUPID ROE’s.

If Obummer was FDR:

US military leaders fear withdrawal will increase soldier deaths

Roosevelt orders troop withdrawal from Guadacanal anyway

By telegraphing your intentions to the enemy, you are guaranteeing increased casualties as well as eliminating intelligence from the native population. But hey the “CIC” learned everything he knows from being a community organizer. Grrrr

More flag draped coffins that the MSM will ignore. There are no anti-war, environmentalist, women/human rights movements in America; it’s all about power and the struggle for freedom.

I would love to see the President’s protective detail arrest him for treason—giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

That's a powerful statement. Think I'll share it with a few of my vet buddies.

My only son begins his first tour next year. I have a lot of respect for Petraeus, but these ROE to me are unacceptable especially when I read this:

Corrupt Afghan courts release most Taliban fanatics seized by UK troops: Report
Afghanistan Sun
Monday 27th June, 2011
(ANI)

Afghanistan’s courts have freed over 1,000 Taliban fighters seized by British troops in the past year, it has emerged.

According to the Sun, the corrupt and shambolic legal system in Helmand province has convicted fewer than one in 20 murderous insurgents.

A military source said that Helmands’ justice system is not capable enough to process and convict many cases.

“The Helmand justice system is next to useless - and it’s down to a mixture of corruption, inepitutde and a lack of capacity to process and convict so many cases,” the paper quoted the military source, as saying.

“It is also bad for our morale, as there is little more dispiriting than seeing all our hard work in finding and catching some really evil people go to waste when they are freed just as fast,” the source added.

In the past year, just 82 out of 1,175 suspected insurgents arrested by British soldiers were convicted and sentenced, the paper said. (ANI)
