Bachmann won't take Fox host's apology (Faux News)
Politico ^ | 6/27/2011 | By MAGGIE HABERMAN

Posted on 06/27/2011 5:14:17 AM PDT by tobyhill

Via POLITICO's Jennifer Epstein, Michele Bachmann isn't accepting an apology from Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace for asking her yesterday, "Are you a flake?" Continue Reading

ABC News' Jon Karl, who's been getting face-time with Bachmann in Waterloo in advance of her formal campaign announcement, played a clip of the web video in which Wallace said, "I messed up. I'm sorry."

When Karl asked if she accepts the apology, Bachmann brushed aside the question this way: "I think that it's insulting to insinuate that a candidate for president is less than serious."

I think Chris “showed a little leg” yesterday in his left-leaning politics. It will also allow him cover that he certainly will never ask that kind of question again, and certainly not to a Liberal who probably is better deserving of such question.

Did Wallace, or anybody on Faux, ever question anything about Obama? Anything? I’m talking about serious questioning here, looking at his background and asking serious questions.

The answer is, only one: Glenn Beck.

No one else. They line up to give the Big O big BJs.

I proposed on the original thread on this yesterday she should have responded with a few of the president’s flakier statements and ask Chris if he would say something similar to him.

I cannot wait for the time one of the candidates gets to the point of getting up from their seats and lays one on one of these pin headed “news” hosts.

Reminds me of a story (true?) about a Texas Ranger Captain testifying. The defense attorney called him a liar. He got out of the witness stand and laid him out while proclaiming he defamed both the Texas Rangers and the State of Texas. He then approached the bench and asked what the fine was for assault and battery in the judges jurisdiction! Probably just some old lore but the point is you got to stop some of these clowns from going to far. Gingrich did it when asked by a host recently some absurd question and he threw it back on the host proclaiming you really cannot be implying such and such, no rational person would. I love it when the tables are turned.

What candidate did Rollings say that about.

Not a current candidate, but the most highly anticipated potential candidate. He made demeaning comments directly towards Sarah Palin.

Because of that blatant insult, I will not support Bachmann at any cost unless Rollins is dismissed.

To me, right now, Bachmann is a flake.

SHE blew that interview, not Chris Wallace. This is pure, out and out deflection from her lousy performance. And if I was Chris Wallace, I would NOT have apologized. This whole thing was reported ccmpletely out of context.
HE did not suggest that she was unserious OR a flake. He said that was the rap on her from OTHER people and he asked her straight out. Shame on her. She stunk up that whole interview. It was embarrassing.

Wallace’s sort-of apology was aimed more at the FoxNews Sunday viewers than to Bachmann.

Wallace got a mass of heated emails. I doubt the News Corp managed liked that onslaught.

The diss of Bachmann was serious enough that Wallace issued the video sort-of apology just hours after FNS aired.

Always thought wallace (with a small w) was a twerp... 19th century term meaning silly or annoying, inclusive of fool... also a term much used in my high school days in the late 60’s... never really knew what it meant then, but I knew you didn’t want to be one. A nice moniker for wallace... wallace-the-twerp :})

That was the wrong thing to say, Michelle.

I agree with Post #14. She does act like a flake sometimes but more importantly she should just let the criticism roll off her like a politician should. I have the same problem with my governor who told a reporter when asked if he sent his children to public school that it was none of her business. He should have said that he was PROUD but obliged to send his children to private school even though he paid $38,000 in property taxes the previous year. If people don’t have a thick skin, they certainly don’t belong in politics.

It is time to stop going on those silly shows to be asked insulting questions.

Wallace might have better framed the remark...but she didn’t do well in her response IMO. She has to get on mark or she’ll never make it thru the first part of what’s coming with the press....friend or foe.

I don’t agree. I know its politically correct in this day and age and somehow the person originally offended ends up getting the short end of the stick if they don’t kiss and make up, but, there is something to be said in this getting older man’s outlook for someone actually calling BS on these clowns. And, of course it would take a woman to do it because the 2011 man is even further gone off the politically correct cliff.

Yes, he did. Hiding behind the "that was the rap on her from OTHER people" is pretty silly. How's this: Chris, others say you are an idiot (or fill in the blank for something worse). ARE you an idiot?

This was a stupid question and did not belong in a serious interview of a potential presidential candidate.

Sounds like something a flake would ask, instead.

I've never been fooled by Chris Wallace. He's basically another lib trying to portray himself as a conservative. It's all about him kinda guy. FNC should fire him. Along with a few others but I'm not holding my breath until they do.

But Wallace may have inadvertently tipped us off to how the left plans to attack Michele should she become our nominee. She'll get the Cristine O'Donnell treatment. Worked last time.

The problem is the way Wallace phrased it. If he had asked :”Some in your own party have accused you of being a flake. How do you respond?” it would have been acceptable. He came off as more asking :”Defend yourself flake”.

You dont see Wallace asking Palin insult questions like that even though I have seen a number of (silly) posts here claiming FNC is fighting a war against Palin.

“....A Christian would accept the apology. This makes Bachmann look worse than Wallace. Bad mistake....”

I am a Christian and I disagree. This was an insult not only to MB, but to everybody who supports her and who has donated to her and even to all those who respect her but do not support her for President. It was an insult in a way to the entire tea party movement.

It was not simply an insult to her, and therefore it is not her apology to accept totally. She learned the lesson GWB NEVER EVER learned- and I commend her for it. And BTW, she’s not my first choice for Prez.

Like the establishment Republican party, these people have to chisel away at the serious conservatives with their snide and petty questions. Attack, retreat, attack again.

Where does it say in the article that she did not accept the apology? From the article:

........"When Karl asked if she accepts the apology, Bachmann brushed aside the question this way: "I think that it's insulting to insinuate that a candidate for president is less than serious.""..........

She brushed aside the question....she did not make a big deal of it....she actually said the same thing live during the interview, yesterday. When Wallace asked her what she would say to others calling her a flake, she essentially said that would be insulting. When he again asked her if she thought it would be a good thing for a candidate to not say "flaky things", her response was essentially, well, of course.

It would probably be a good thing to also not say racially charged things, curse like a drunken sailor on live TV, you get the drift.

It was a stupid question. Wallace probably regretted it immediately. And. He apologized for it. That’s a rare thing in itself and indicative of just how out of line the question was.

For the unwashed that didn’t see - only heard the soundbite - the apology was a potentially huge win: it could have shown that she can take an unfair punch and hold her ground.

Instead, her refusal to accept the apology shows that she’s thin-skinned. The failure to be gracious in the face of an apology is, well, ungracious.

That is highly insulting - but that’s ok. What is not OK is that I logically explained that it is faux Christianity to accept an apology that is not yours to accept. All you’ve offered is self righteous platitudes and condemned the actions of the offended and given the offender a pass.
